What To Expect

ONIGIRI is a Japanese food that has a longer history than sushi. Why not try holding freshly harvested rice in your hands while it is still hot? Children will be welcomed. There is an area with toys for kids to play with. There are two different flavors. If you have any allergies, please let us know in advance. △Tuna mayonnaise ▲Shrimp tempura If you would like to try ▲Fresh Egg yolk (can be placed on rice balls using a special cooking method) Ask them when you make the reservation. Vegetarian and vegan menus are currently being prepared. Ask us if you would like to order them, please. We also make miso soup, with a chawan bowl. If you have a cafe au lait bowl at home, we will share recipes that you can make even when you return to your home country. Enjoy rice balls and miso soup, be thankful for the blessings of everyday life, and spend some peaceful time here in Hiroshima with mothers (who also speak English and have lived overseas). For dessert, try making matcha tea. Please enjoy matcha you made with Japanese sweets (Wagashi). Let's learn the manners of the tea ceremony (SADOU) together and become more Japanese than Japanese. bow No alcohol served.

  • Great experience!

We were very satisfied with this course! Midori came looking for us at our hotel and we did the course at Uiko's house. After learning some basics of Japanese and the origin of onigiri, we were able to prepare two onigiri ourselves. Later we prepared a sushi roll and discovered the ingredients to make a miso soup. Finally, they showed us and explained the rules for preparing and serving matcha tea for a tea ceremony. Midori and Uiko were very kind to us and we laughed a lot together:). They also gave us great tips for eating in 2 local restaurants. We highly recommend this course to anyone who wishes to discover some secrets of Japanese cuisine and spend a pleasant morning!

It was really nice and the food was amazing and tasty!! There were many options for the Onigiri and the Matcha was also really delicious and refreshing. The Cheff speaks really good English and is helping really much, she picked us from the hotel and drove all our luggage there and to the ferry we needed. I really recommend you this wonderful workshop if you're looking for fresh and authentic Japanese Onigiri made with love by the amazing chef.

I had an opportunity learning how to make onigiri and tamagoyaki with these duo. It was wonderful to experience Japan by cooking and eating with the locals. Their bright and cheerful personalities will make you feel welcome and comfortable.

What a special morning of learning, not only about how to make onigiri, but also useful Japanese phrases, history, culture. We also made miso soup, matcha and maki sushi, and tried sweet potato treats, and left very full! All in a warm and friendly home environment, with plenty of laughter and smiles. Highly recommend!

Loved the home based cooking experience. Midori and Uiko made us very welcome in their home and introduced us to the culture and cuisine of Japan. Fabulous food and a fun, friendly once in a lifetime experience (Ichi-go, ichi-e as we learnt). Would highly recommend this class.

The host had a great communication all of the time and provided really good explanations. It’s not “just to make onigiri” but have a bit of history and lots of fun. We enjoyed the experience and the food.

My wife and I had a fantastic time. I’d done something similar before, but this one was far more informative—and way more fun! Midori and Uiko made us feel comfortable right away, and there was plenty of laughter and great conversation throughout. I requested to make norimaki instead of onigiri, and they happily accommodated—it felt like cooking with old friends. A truly memorable experience and a beautiful way to connect with the kind of genuine local culture that many Japanese people grow up with, but I’d never had the chance to experience myself.
