What To Expect

You will start your tour by visiting the Ogura Shrine. Legend has it that the Shinto spirit of rain is said to reside there. If you visit in May you may be able to catch the local festival to pray for an abundant harvest. Head to your next location and visit a local's rice farmer house. Get ready for a hands-on and tasty tradition of mochi pounding! Using a large wooden mallet and mortar you'll help turn freshly steamed glutinous rice into soft, chewy mochi. Try the mochi with 3 different flavors, including a local specialty with Natto. After the mochi experience gather around the table and enjoy a warm, homemade meal of Sukiyaki. Your local host will show you how to prepare the dish and everyone is welcome to participate! Finish off the day with a warm conversation with your hosts while enjoying a delicious meal.
