Horseback Riding through Upper Mustang

5.00I did a 12 day horseback riding excursion through Upper Mustang. I flew from Kathmandu to Pokhara then began the ride in Jomsom. We went up to Lo Manthang for the Tiji Festival and beyond to the caves. I loved it and cannot imagine any other experience equal to it. We rode from 4 to 6 hours per day. It was peaceful and beyond beautiful. I got sick a few days in and Govinda, my guide, was so concerned and did everything he could to help me. Luckily I had antibiotics with me (bring everything: meds, diamox, vitamins, tissues, wet wipes, hand sanitizer, electrolytes, head lamp, hat, sleeping bag, towel). He got a jeep to transport us to the next destination so I could rest. He is so thoughtful and experienced, has been to Mustang over 20 times! I didn't have to worry about anything because I knew he was taking care of it. He is efficient and I trusted him 100%. Being in a jeep for a short amount of time was definitely a good decision but on the other hand, made me appreciate being on horseback even more. Soojit, our horseman walked alongside us and made sure the horses were well taken care of. We took plenty of rest breaks and walked when the inclines were too steep. I will miss Govinda, Soojit, and the horses so much! Unparalleled experience!

5.00Excellent tour giving us the opportunity to get wonderful views. Guide was excellent. Pony was pretty well behaved.
