Our herd of Boerperd horses are gentle and suitable for all levels of riding experience. We offer a unique riding experience through a 240ha wildlife sanctuary for close encounters with animals in a natural environment.

Maximum weight limit of 75kg. No exceptions. We cannot refund if inaccurate information provided which excludes your participation on the day. Please make sure of your weight before booking.
Children need to have already turned 8 years old on or before the date of the ride. No children under 8 will be permitted to ride.

For a full refund, cancel at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure time.
What To Expect
We will spend 1.5 hours horse riding through a 240ha wildlife sanctuary which is home to giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, and a variety of antelope and birds. Maximum weight of rider may not exceed 75kg - weighing on arrival. Minimum 2 guests required for a ride to take place.

We provide helmets which are compulsory to wear.

Game Reserve & Wine Tasting
Vineyard ride & wine tasting
Duration: 3 hours
Standard Wine Tasting: Standard wine tasting is included. Any extras or changes need to be paid directly to the wine estate on the day.
Game Reserve & Vineyards: We start out in the game reserve and then through the neighboring vineyards to the tasting room where you spend 45 minutes.

5.00Pete’s Horse Safari was incredible from start to finish. Riding horses right alongside giraffes felt surreal and truly magical. The safari is perfect for beginner riders. The scenery is breathtaking, and we saw so many animals along the way.

5.00We had a wonderful horse ride with Deirdré and her team! The horses are great and the wildlife sanctuary is beautiful. During the ride we came across all sorts of animals including different kinds of antelopes, zebras and giraffes. We can warmly recommend Horse Rides at Pete’s and will return as soon as possible!

5.00I had never have gone horseback riding before this tour but thanks to the explanation I had gotten and the gentle horses they have had a great experience. The giraffes, springboks, zebras and other wild live come close to you zo you can see them beautifully in the natural habitats. The guide was very knowledgeable about all the wildlife and explained about how they are protecting these animals so they can survive for year to come.

5.00Would 100% recommend horse riding wildlife safari when visiting this region of south Africa. Came with my dad who has no experience riding and all of the horses were so calm and well trained. Our guide was so lovely and matched us with horses based on riding experience. All horses looked really excellently cared for and super comfortable in the reserve. We spent over and hour riding the horses around the reserve whilst our guide led from the back giving a guided commentary of the animals we could see and her knowledge of the animals and wildlife in the area was really good! We were in a really small group with three riders and our guide which was really good as everyone was able to listen and hear her whilst still being able to observe and enjoy th surrounding area. We were super fortunate to see both baby giraffe, zebra and water buck; along with spring bok and lots of native bird species (some of which are protected species). I would highly recommend this experience for beginner riders who would like the south African safari experience, and we were able to get so close to the animals it was a truly remarkable activity. The price is without a doubt worth it as you can see how well the horses are cared for and loved, and they really enjoy what they do.

5.00Me and my 2 children (11 and 15) made the ride into this magnificent nature. We saw a lot of animals, and felt like we were in the middle of the savannah. It was a very great experience with the children!

4.00We are far from experienced riders and felt safe and in control during the ride through the sanctuary. The highlight had to be the two baby giraffe who were adorable. Experiencing the animals from the back of a horse was a precious experience that will not be forgotten. The guide was knowledgeable about the animals and shared the philosophy behind the park. The drop of a star was due to the wine tasting experience as there was little shared about the wines in terms of background or tasting notes

5.00The safari should definitely have been done. The experience on a horse, seeing other animals was just awesome. The other animals take you as animal was and the zebras, giraffes etc. Were therefore so close to us 😍 The horses are happy and very well maintained. The local staff are true gold treasures, so loving and friendly. A must have on the trip!!!

5.00A must do if you’re visiting Cape Town! A 40ish minute uber (about it $20 USD) from the city and the most amazing experience! Game drives are great but to experience the animals up close and personal while on horseback is something else. Monika was the best guide! 10/10 would recommend

5.00Words are not enough to describe our experience today it was one of the best moments of my life and will be forever in my heart ...The horses are so well behaved ; relaxed and well looked after ..We saw zebras / springbok/ giraffes amongst many other wonderful animals ..This experience is so well organised and well thought out..I'm glad we did the 2hr option but could do this every day ...Well worth every penny ... we will be back with more friends ..Thank you thank you from the bottom of our hearts 💕
