Come out to a real arctic ranch! just 10 minutes from alta city, Flatmoen Farm lays in quiet surroundings with wilderness in 3 directions.
We will pick you up from your stay, then head out to the farm. We will great the horses and talk a little bit about how the different horses work
Now the fun begins. Depending on your riding level, we will head out to the woods either walk, trot or gallop. The trees hanging over the small path in the forest, completely covered in snow. Surrounded with nature, the only sound you can hear is the horse’s footsteps and heavy breath in the crisp cold air.
These woods are known for their moose population. so, if you are lucky, we might catch I glimpse of the king himself.

If you are a little bit afraid to throw yourself into one of our longer trips, and just want a taste, this is the perfect trip for you. We start by entering the pasture and pick ourselves a horse, bring them back to the farm and start grooming them. When we are all done we head out in to the woods. You decide the speed, and we do not have to go fast if you don’t want to, that’s all up to you guys. The horses are as safe as they can be, and you will receive helmets from us. The perfect trip for beginners. We end the trip with a coffee and something to bite on, at the farm porch

Johnny was a great host! I have some experience with horseback riding and it was an ideal ride. We arranged for pickup through Flatmoen and Helge, the driver, was right on time. He told us about the area and the ranch. We rode fjord horses and Johnny adjusted the ride based on riders ability. What was great was that we had some time in the arena with the horses so were familiar with them by the time we got on the trail. It was really majestic - going through the woods as light snow came down, making everything look like it was coated in powdered sugar l. When we were done with the ride, we sat in a little hut around a fire, had some coffee or hot currant juice and a warmed cinnamon bun. We chatted around the fire and traded stories with Johnny and Helge - we were here in the low season so I’m not sure if that’s a perk everyone gets, but it was truly the highlight of our trip! Would definitely recommend Flatmoen to anyone.

This was just an incredible experience! It wasn't possible on the day I wanted to go, but they made sure that I could still ride two days later. We got warm clothes and they made sure that we had everything we needed. Johnny took a group out on a Sled Tour while I was riding with Louise. She was really kind and explained a lot of things about the nature and told stories about arctic animals. She also made sure to check in regularily so that we weren't overwhelmed. At some point we stopped around a fire and had some tasty, homemade food. Even though we were a bit short on time (partially my fault, oops) they made sure to make it a great experience. I would highly recommend them! These people are so unbelievably kind and have created great experiences.

Today we had a horse riding activity. It was a surprise for my birthday and I was a super nice activity. We got suits and boots, so that we weren’t cold at all. In the middle of the tour there was a stop where we got typical Norwegian food and drinks. I was a bit scared in the beginning, as it isn’t very easy to me to go horseback riding due to an illness (I used to do it a lot!), but that wasn’t necessary as the horses are very kind. Definitely would do it again!

I had quite a few schedule changes with cancelled flights and Levi and Johnny still made it work for me to get in a good morning with the horses. This whole property is absolutely beautiful. They go above and beyond for their guests. 10/10 recommend spending a beautiful, still morning with these sweet horses and owners.

We hade a very nice horse riding experience. We were with a young child (8yo) and it was also suited for her (as well as for us with close to none experience). Glad to see the horses were clean, healthy and perfectly taken care of, and happy (as far as we can tell ;-)). Perfect and knowlegable guidance from the owner. All topped off with a coffee and delicious homemade suprise food speciality. Highly recommended!

It was magical to ride horses in the Arctic winter wonderland. Johnny is eager to help and makes sure you are enjoying yourself and making the most out of your time. Everyone including the horses are so friendly and welcoming. It’s a unique and unforgettable experience. Looking forward to riding again! Highly recommended! (+ the homemade cinnamon buns are delicious!)
