While staying in Hoi An for 11 nights we used Andy and his team for a day trip to Hue. The experience was exceptional from beginning to end. Andy’s communication was brilliant in the run up, including options to make the trip exactly what we wanted; and guidance on what to wear. During the 10.5 hour day trip we travelled from our hotel in Hoi An along the winding Hai Van Pass, stopping to take photos and soak up the spectacular view. Then on to Lap An Lagoon and a Vietnamese coffee. Then the drive to Hue where we spent about 1.5 hours at the Imperial Palace. A lovely lunch tasting local Hue dishes and on to the Thien Mu Buddhist monastery by the Perfume river. Our time in Hue ended at the Khai Dinh King Tomb, a remarkable place. Our driver was excellent, very safe and patient. We were very comfortable in his car and were able to have a good view the whole day. You need a car that is slightly high off the ground to make the most of the incredible views. Our guide Mr Kong was superb, his English was very good, he was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic, he taught us so much. He was such a nice guy to spend a day with. What a day! We didn’t want to stay overnight in Hue so a full on day trip was perfect for us. As a side note, Vietnam and its local tour operators are suffering as a result of the reduction in Chinese tourists because of Coronavirus. We were surprised to see how quiet Hoi An was this year. Vietnam was handling the situation extremely well and keeping their people and visitors very safe. We never felt concerned about it. We were given masks by all the companies we did trips with. Please book through local people to help their businesses going.
