What To Expect
Hue Imperial City (The Citadel)
OPTIONAL STOP: Built from 1804 by King Gia Long and finished in 1833 by King Minh Mang. This area was used as living and working quarter for Kings and Royal Family Members of the Nguyen Dynasty until 1945, and was recognized by UNESCO as WORLD CULTURAL HERITAGE. This is a must see place, that not to be missed if you travel to Hue and love to learn about country history and Vietnamese royal culture.
Thien Mu Pagoda
OPTIONAL STOP: Located on the north shore of the Perfume River about 3km from the Imperial Citadel. You can get there by dragon boat along the Perfume River, or for those feeling more energetic, a pleasant bicycle ride. The Thien Mu Pagoda is regarded as the unofficial symbol of the former imperial capital. Today it is the home of the Austin Motor Vehicle which drove Thich Quang Duc to his self-immolation in Saigon in 1963 in protest against the Diem regime. It is still home to many monks and a holy site visited by many everyday.

5.00Prompt pickup from our hotel, Duy was our driver, nice tidy clean cool car, he was very friendly, funny, knowledgable, helpful. The weather was beautiful so our dragon boat ride up the river to the Pagoda was delightful, plus we were the only 2 passengers. Pagoda and the Khai Dinh Tomb were well worth the visit. Fascinating history and stunning buildings. Duy stopped by to show us some interesting things including the village where incense is produced. Finally dropped us at a ‘locals’ local restaurant, also great. A good day out, recommended.

5.00We had an half day hue tour with Nhi today which included a dragon boat ride down perfume river. From start to finish Nhi and our driver took great care of us. Her knowledge of the area was very good and we enjoyed the whole experience. Thankyou Nhi for spending the morning with us.

5.00Nhi gave our group of six an excellent tour of the Imperial City and Thien Mu Pagoda. She shared just the right amount of information—engaging, clear, and never overwhelming. The topics she discussed were fascinating and sparked genuine curiosity and interest among all of us. Our group especially appreciated learning about both the ancient and modern history of Vietnam, and Nhi did a wonderful job addressing those interests with depth and insight. She was also extremely patient and kind throughout the tour, which made the experience even more enjoyable and welcoming.
