We recently did a wine tasting day tour to Hunter Valley as a group of four girls, and while there were some enjoyable moments, the overall experience was mixed – with the tour starting strong but tapering off quickly in quality and service. Booking & Pre-Tour Experience The booking process was easy and straightforward. We appreciated receiving the waiver via email beforehand – though a helpful improvement would be for the tour description to explicitly mention to watch out for the pre-tour email and waiver (it’s easy to miss!). Pick-Up & Transport Pick-up on the day was on time, and the location was easy to find. However, with multiple tour vehicles lined up at the same location and no clear signage, we had to approach several vans to identify our group – clearer instructions or vehicle markings would have helped. The driver was friendly and efficient. The drive was bumpy at times but manageable, with one pit stop along the way. Cellar Doors & Tastings Stop 1: Winery Tour & Tasting This was by far the highlight of the day – great wine, a warm host, and a lovely tour that felt engaging and informative. Stop 2: Gin & Vodka Tasting Unfortunately, this was a letdown. The staff member conducting the session seemed disinterested and rushed through everything. It was hard to hear her, and the atmosphere became awkward – our whole group fell silent, which says a lot. While the alcohol itself was interesting, the poor service made this feel like a chore. Lunch Sadly, this was another low point. The food quality was poor – most of us didn’t finish our meals. On the bright side, we had a private room, which gave us a nice break from the crowded venue. Wine & Cheese Tasting (same venue as lunch) Extremely underwhelming. Our driver ended up serving us the cheese initially (which was odd), and when staff took over, the service was rushed and lacked any real explanation. The cheese was basic and not well-paired. Final Stop: Chocolate & Wine Pairing Again, a rushed experience with little depth. Wines were decent, but the interaction felt transactional and very much on a tight schedule. Final Thoughts Overall, the day was passable. The tour delivered what it promised in terms of logistics and the number of tastings, but the inconsistent service and rushed feel really brought down the experience after a strong start. We left feeling disappointed with how little engagement or hospitality we received at most stops.

Wonderful, joy, fun and enjoyable wine tours. The guide is on time, give a clear introduction, direction and nice. The winery GM introduce how the wine been made, introduce 7 kind of wine and give comments what kind of food drink with what kind of wine. The lunch is great with free wine, beer or juices. Went to spirit alcohol to try Gin and vodka. The most impressive is the expresso gin, earl grey tea vodka and chocolate vodka. Went cheese and wine tasting that cheese is very nice that drink with the wine is prefect. The last stop go do wine tasting with pairing with chocolate. The wine lady is so fun, joyful and lovely has introduce wine include the wine culture and kind of chocolate to pair with. Is happy and lovely tours.

The wine tours were informative and very enjoyable. The iron gates winery tour was the first and the staff and wine were very good. Gavin our host there was very passionate about his job and the wine was excellent. The next stop was a gin and vodka distillery, got to be honest, for us this was a bit naff. The staff were on script and it was clear this was the selling stop. Didn't quite fit with a hunter valley wine tour. We ate at the 4 pines winery and the food was very nice. This was followed by a cheese and wine combo. Some amazing cheeses and good wine as well. But the star of the show was Hannah. She was very entertaining and just like Gavin earlier really knew her stuff. Last stop was a wine and chocolate stop. For us this was a learning experience, when we thought about it after it made sense but pairing wine with the different sorts of chocolate to adjust the taste of the wine to your preference. All in all recommended, but I would say it's a long 11 to 12 hour day from Sydney. Got to add, our driver Peter was also very good, helpful and also knowledgeable.
