This Ice Fishing Trip will offer you a great chance to catch your breath in the silence of Lapland nature while experiencing a traditional activity that many locals like to practice.
Our Ice Fishing Trip will take you to a frozen lake outside Rovaniemi. The place we choose for ice fishing not only offers a good chance to catch something but we also help restore ones tranquility and peace of mind. Many locals still practice this activity during the winter to catch food for themselves or their dogs and to enjoy the relaxing serenity of Lapland nature.
On all our excursions, our groups are limited to 8 travelers maximum. It is very important for us to provide you with the best experience possible, and avoid mass tourism. This way, your guide will know you better and will be able to address all your needs and answer your questions. As we usually say - the smaller the group, the bigger the experience!

Your guide will drive you away from Rovaniemi to find the perfect peaceful place. You may have a short 5-10 minute walk through the old arctic forests before you finally reach that immense open area made of ice and snow. Once you have found a promising spot, your guide will show you how to drill your hole in the ice and teach you the basic techniques of how to ice-fish. Then, it is just a matter of time and patience before you can feel the first bites! This is just the perfect moment to appreciate the silent wilderness spreading all around you. Your guide will always be there to assist you, in case you would need help or feel cold. While you will be fishing, they will chop wood and prepare a fire on the shores for you. Some typical Finnish snacks and hot drinks will be served around the fire. This offers a convivial opportunity for your guide to answer all your questions about life in the Arctic and Lapland in general. If you manage to catch a fish (of a decent size), your guide will happily prepare it, cook it straight over the fire and add it to the menu of the day! If the fish are undersized, we will quickly return them to the ice without unnecessarily harming them.

We loved this tour! While we did not catch any fish (which is common), we had a wonderful experience being on a frozen lake, manually drilling holes in the ice, and trying to fish with a tiny rod! The included campfire, sausage and hot drink were a bonus! Our guide Matu made the tour very educational and entertaining by sharing his experiences and information about the region.

The Ice Fishing trip was an experience - there were just the 4 of us in our group which was perfect. It was hard work drilling through the 1 meter thick ice but reassuring to know how thick it was! Then it's a case of sitting there and hoping. The other 2 people in our group did catch something but 'they got away'. It was great fun and I'm glad we did it.

I have never fished before but that didn’t matter because they explain exactly what to do. The process of drilling into the ice was so fun. We didn’t catch anything but that didn’t affect my experience at all. It was so fun to sit in the middle of a frozen lake. when you are finished there is a teepee with a fire and sausages waiting for you. Sitting in the teepee around the fire was equally as fun as fishing.

Just experienced the ultimate winter wonderland adventure! Our family of four went ice fishing on frozen Jyrhämäjärvi lake, and had the entire lake to ourselves! Huge thanks to our amazing guide Eneko, who taught us how to ice fish, start a fire with flint and steel, and even BBQ sausages in a cozy teepee tent! This trip was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Our guide was really knowledgeable and very friendly. She explained the afternoon activities very well and we had a nice time. I think perhaps the location and shallow part of the lake we fished wasn’t ideal.

We've not seen any fish but I was not expecting to catch something. We appreciated the surrounding, the small size of our group, all the tips and curiosities out guide (cannot remember the name, the Croatian guy) shared with us, this was the plus of this tour!

This is fun little trip, but just a taster or introduction to Ice fishing so don't expect too much! its a 25 minute drive there and back, with a short trek from the vehicle to get out into the frozen lake. After drilling your hole in the ice and getting set up, there's approx. 1 hour to fish. Then you can warm up in the tepee and cook sausages over a log fire. Our Guide Emily was very friendly and helpful. Overall and fun morning and good experience.
