We had a fantastic trip out to the Columbia Icefield. Caitlyn and Carla did a wonderful job educating us on the glaciers we saw. Artie and the driver gave us a very informative demonstration of the gear used to climb & survive climbing on the ice.

Once in a lifetime adventure for us to stand on a glacier! Led by our guide, Tommy, and Andrew, our driver, we started out in a snow squall which we thought would block any great views. By the time we reached the glacier the snow subsided, the skies cleared and we had incredible views. Tommy shared a lot of info about the history of the area, the glacier itself and its future. Our group was small (7 instead of the max of 10), and it was well worth the price for a more intimate experience. We even saw a small avalanche on the Andromeda side of the glacier a very safe distance away. An awesome experience all around and definitely recommend!

Booked the whole Glacier View Lodge experience package, which included the Ice Odyssey Experience. It’s top tier offering. After spending the previous evening at a welcome reception, personalised Skywalk tour and amazing dinner in their Altitude restaurant followed by a luxurious, and picturesque, stay in a glacier view room, we were keen to start our morning with the Ice Odyssey Experience. That said, neither of us really knew what we’d signed up for and watching the ‘Fat Trucks’ bumble their way up and down the track the previous afternoon gave us no better idea of what to expect. We arrive for the tour check in and, while there were around 15 or so others also waiting, we find out that we’re the only 2 booked for the Ice Odyssey, which is the upgraded experience from what the rest of the group were doing. Bonus we thought but also a part of us was thinking, what have we done!! We ventured out in these chunky oversize capsules with huge tyres, and we're on our way. We head out and, as described by our guide Gracie, the slowest rollercoaster in the world, made our way up the track leading to the glacier. Gracie pointed out and explained various spots and facts along the way. We see these modified ‘busses’ ahead, also with huge tyres, and think that’s where we’re headed. There are people milling about on the actual glacier and we’re thinking that’s pretty cool and can’t wait to join them but then they’re in our back view, we’re still climbing up the track. We head about another 60-70 metres up the hill, further up the glacier and come to a stop at a higher, smaller vantage point. It’s our turn to step on the glacier! Surreal doesn’t cut it, amazing doesn’t cut it. I’m simply lost for suitable words to express the magnificence of what we were feeling. Standing on that glacier, just the 2 of us. Well 4 of us with Gracie and Andrew (our trusty driver), but it was such a great feeling. While up there, Gracie and Andrew provided a wealth of knowledge, explained so much, took questions and their enthusiasm and passion was so evident. They showed us mountain climbing equipment, explained its use and allowed us to hands on try it. They even made us a cup of hot tea to warm our frosty hands!! All in all, we are 1000% glad we chose the upgraded version. The fact that it was just us was icing (pun definitely intended) on the cake. Gracie and Andrew were both amazing in absolutely every possible aspect. If you’re thinking about doing this and can’t decide on which experience to choose, take our advice, pay the extra and enjoy the upgraded experience. You won’t regret it!! Lastly, thanks Gracie and Andrew, both of you are amazing people and a credit to your organisation!

This is a must do trip if you want to experience the Athabasca Glacier. Our guides Conner and Tommy were a wealth of knowledge about the glaciers and their own anectodal adventures on the icefield. The hot tea was a plus and very appreciated.
