India Gate
The India Gate was built to commemorate the 70,000 Indian soldiers who lost their lives fighting for the British Army during World War I. The names of more than 13,516 British and Indian soldiers killed in the Third Anglo-Afghan War of 1919 are also inscribed on the memorial. The foundation stone was laid in 1921, and it was inaugurated in 1931. Amar Jawan Jyoti: The Amar Jawan Jyoti (Flame of the Immortal Soldier) was added beneath the arch in 1971 following the Indo-Pakistani War. It was a black marble pedestal with a reversed rifle and a soldier's helmet, with an eternal flame burning beside it. This served as a memorial to India's unknown soldiers. In 2022, the flame was merged with the flame at the newly built National War Memorial, which is located in the same C-Hexagon complex.
Rashtrapati Bhavan
Originally known as the Viceroy's House, it was built to serve as the residence of the British Viceroy of India. The construction, which took 17 years, was completed in 1929. After India gained independence in 1947, the building was renamed Rashtrapati Bhavan, and C. Rajagopalachari became the first Indian Governor-General to reside there. Dr. Rajendra Prasad was the first President of India to occupy it from 1950 onwards.
Parliament House
The original Parliament House, designed by British architects Sir Edwin Lutyens and Herbert Baker, was built between 1921 and 1927. It was originally known as the Council House and served as the seat of the Imperial Legislative Council. After India's independence, it became the home of the Constituent Assembly and later the Parliament of India.

We just completed a fantastic 4day trip to Simla, Manali and Kullu and our experience was made truly special by our driver Hukum Singh. Navigating the winding mountain roads and heavy traffic can be stressful, but he was an absolute professional, punctual, polite and an expert at hill driving.
