In the 1800's there was a large emigration from the Isle of Man to countries such as Canada, Australia and the United States due to extreme poverty and opportunities that were being offered in the new worlds.
This tour is designed for those of you who are visiting the Isle of Man for family history and genealogy. This will include the family history with research before your visit, as well as a tour of parts of the island that your family lived in, together with visits to churches where they may have been baptised, married or buried.
I have an accreditation for genealogy research with Strathclyde University through Future Learn and I am on a list of researchers maintained by the Manx Museum library.
Each tour would be tailored to your needs. If you would like to contact me for a tour, I can help you connect with your past and then take you into the present and what the island has to offer now.

Jane was a wonderful guide and was ready to help me find some of the gravestones, churches and towns of where my dad’s paternal side had lived. My husband and I enjoyed learning about the island past and present as well. Cheryl and Ted Barr

Our tour guide, Jane, was very sweet and knowledgeable. Before getting to the Isle of Man, she had requested that we send the names of our Manx ancestors. When she picked us up for our tour, she had information gathered about those ancestors (as much as she could) and took us to a couple of cemeteries where they may have been buried. She also took us along the streets of Peel where they had lived. When we went to the House of Manannan, she let us roam the museum at our own pace, which was nice. She also showed us inside St John's church, Tynwald Hill, some Loughton sheep, a view of the Calf of Man, Cregneash Village, and Castle Rushen (which, unfortunately, was closed when we got there). Overall, it was a wonderful day and we got to see things we either wouldn't have or couldn't have done on our own.

Visiting my ancestors farms and driving to the North tip of the island! Also, seeing the church where my family worshipped.

I can't say enough about the great tour Jane gave us. A visit to Cregneash Village to learn a bit about how our ancestors lived, getting up close and personal with work horses and Manx Loaghtan sheep, and not so close to the resident Manx cat. A visit to the cemetery where we found our g-g-grandparents' headstone and paid our respects. A drive through the village where they lived and its surroundings. Stops at Maughold to see the amazing medieval crosses and at King Orry's Grave. A drive over Snaefell. All the while entertaining and educating us about the history and customs of the island. AND she had prepared for our day with some research based on a small bit of information about my family that I provided. Jane is well-informed, personable, and just a delight to spend time with. I highly recommend her tour to anyone who wants to understand more about their ancestors or just to learn about this beautiful island.
