What To Expect
Isle of Skye
Your local Macleod Heilan Tours guide will meet you at your chosen location in Portree or Kyle of Lochalsh and will introduce you to the tour and discuss what your interests are to tailor the tour to suit. You may want to hear the guide talk about the history and culture or possibly tell you what Skye is like to live there as all our guides are local to the area. (Other pick up locations also possible please inform us at the time of booking) Itineraries can include sites such as Fairy Pools, Dunvegan Castle, the Old Man of Storr, Quiraing, Loch Coruisk, Elgol, Fairy Glen, Neist Point and many more. (We will plan the trip with you and make an itinerary that makes the most of the time with us - this can be done before the tour or also when meeting our guide at pick up) The tour will last between 8-9 hours with hotel pick up and drop off included. Any attractions on the tour can such as Dunvegan Castle can be booked on the day.

5.00I can’t say enough about how great the tour was with MacLeod. The constant communication for both booking and the day of the tour made everything so easy. In my case I needed to ask a last minute question. I emailed the info email address and John responded very soon after and even gave me a call to go over the details. This was first class service. The tour itself was amazing. Roddy, my tour guide, was friendly, funny knowledgeable, and just an all-around awesome human being. He seemed to have a vested interest in making sure I got to see all the amazing sites in Skye. We traveled in a minivan type vehicle, very clean and very comfortable. Roddy even let me turn down the heat since I run hot lol. We visited all the locations that were listed on the tour description from the website. I was very happy to see we did not skip over anything. Roddy was very flexible with seeing certain sites, spending more time at one site versus another, or really any accommodations I asked for. No doubt I will be back and taking more tours with them on my next visit.

He was incredibly knowledgeable, had wonderful suggestions for extra stops, and was 100% flexible in order to meet the needs of our large group. I couldn't recommend Macleod Heilan Tours or Marco more for anyone traveling to Scotland. Sincere thanks for an unforgettable trip!

5.00My husband and I booked a one-day private tour with Macleod Heilan Tours, and it became one of the highlights of our entire Scotland trip. From the start, communication with John was clear and reassuring, which made planning around our ferry from Mallaig simple. Our guide, Roddy, was outstanding. He welcomed us warmly, asked what we most wanted to see, and somehow fit it all in—Old Man of Storr, Quiraing, Fairy Glen, Fairy Pools, Sligachan Bridge, and more. He shared history, local stories, and plenty of laughs along the way, all while navigating those narrow roads with ease. He was thoughtful about photo stops, patient during our Fairy Pools hike, and even had a little treat ready when I came back tired but happy. Lunch at the Uig Hotel was relaxed and scenic, and by the end of the day it felt less like a tour and more like a day out with a friend. When an accident blocked the road and we missed our ferry back, Roddy went above and beyond—checking with locals, making calls, and personally ensuring we had a safe place to stay overnight. Roddy’s love for Skye shines through in everything he does. We’ll never forget this day, and we highly recommend Macleod Heilan Tours to anyone wanting to truly experience the beauty and spirit of the Isle of Skye.

5.00We had a wonderful trip around Skye organised by John Sheedy of Macleod Heilan Tours. The booking was easy and uncomplicated and the contact friendly and efficient. Our driver/guide Roddy was a great pleasure to be with and impressed us with his local knowledge and flexibility. He managed to take us to both the south and the north of Skye always in good humour despite the crowds of tourists and vehicles in some places. The vehicle was very comfortable and clean. The overall experience was fantastic and we will never forget this very special day.

5.00I strongly recommend this tour and guide, but particularly Neiss Point Lighthouse and Old Man of Storr. I do have to give one big caveat, though: The roads are a bit scary (even in the passenger seat), and everything was overcrowded. The driver/guide was great, which helped to mitigate the first caveat. To mitigate the second, don't make the mistake of visiting Scotland in July/August if your main point of interest is Skye. Find a different time of year to enjoy the natural beauty of Skye.

5.00What an outstanding experience we had with Macleod Heilan Tours on a 4-day Isle of Skye Private Tour! Would give much more than 5 stars if possible! Our tour guide, Marco, was even more than a fantastic guide, he was a wonderful host! He shared so much knowledge and detail along the tour… never too much or too little information but always just right! Marco went above and beyond taking care of us while on tour, ensuring our comfort, accommodating our needs, and showing us the best place for a photo and even taking photos for us (he’s a great photographer, too!). And when we had foggy weather one morning, Marco was quick to adjust our day’s itinerary (doubling back to some locations even) so that we were able to visit all of the planned sites for the day without any fog! And knowing how obsessed we were with seeing Highland cows, Marco was quick to point out any he spotted along the way and even took us to a farm where we could feed them by hand… which was not on our original itinerary but was one of the most memorable experiences of the entire trip! When booking the tour, John (owner of Macleod Heilan Tours) was quick to respond and offered great tips to tailor our itinerary to specific requests. We coincidentally bumped into John while we were on tour, and it was a wonderful opportunity to meet him in person and thank him for our positive experience with our booking and so far on our tour with Marco… and that was just day one! Both John and Marco are such kind and knowledgeable hosts you can’t go wrong booking with Macleod Heilan Tours! 100/100.

5.00We purchased a private tour for myself and my family (4 total). We have a special needs child, so it was important for us to have a tour by ourselves and our own unshared vehicle. The tour was absolutely fabulous, and the highlight of our trip to Scotland. Niki, our guide, was fantastic. She arrived about 15 minutes early to chat with us about where we wanted to go, what we wanted to see, and to confirm we could get all our preferred sites done in the one day. Our vehicle was clean, roomy and comfortable. Niki was friendly, courteous, and knowledgeable about the island history, and a delight to be around. She even went over and above to take us to a few places we had not considered, but she thought would be worthwhile to see. We completely trusted her to give us the best experience, and she delivered and then some. Cannot say enough good things about the tour and Niki.
Will book again with Macleod Heilan Tours!

5.00From the moment our driver, Roddy, picked us up in Portree it was an amazing day. His stories and love of Scotland only added to the magnificence of the scenery. He was amenable to a slight change we wanted to make to our schedule and in general treated us like royalty. I highly recommend Macleod Heilan Tours.
