An historical walk and immersion into the heart of the Jewish ghetto and Cannaregio to discover the secrets of the 1st Jewish Ghetto of the world. We'll avoid the tourist trail exploring an authentic, lesser-known, but incredible, well-preserved area of Venice, full of charme, enjoying the secret corners of the three ghettos of Venice.
You will learn why the Serenissima Republic forced the Jewish community to live under strict rules and how they lived for centuries.
Did you know that the word "ghetto" comes from a local venetian word?
I will help you to recognize the hidden synagogues from outside and we will visit them inside, I will give you insights into the tragedy of the deportation and how the Holocaust left a deep mark on my beloved Venice. We will explore together the sestier of Cannaregio, with its beautiful streets and the venetian "skyscrapers", we will cross beautiful bridges draped in the locals laundry.

Cannaregio
You could spend a lifetime exploring Venice, and you'd never stop being surprised. What you'll going to love most about Cannaregio is that it still has quiet, secluded spots overlooking the lagoon, homes to local people and enchanting refuges for visitors: a less well known Venice, but no less fascinating. We will visit a fascinating green area to discover more about the history of the Venetian Jewish Community and how the district of Cannaregio looked like at the time of the ghetto

Lucia is a fantastic guide. She is knowledgeable, entertaining and very personable. The tour is a look into an ever increasing and important sense of history. She embraces the history, brings it to life and makes it relevant in today's world. The neighborhood has some great food stops and galleries for dining and shopping after the tour. Lucia clearly cares, not only about the neighborhood and the tours, but her guests as well and makescsure any question asked is fully answered.

Lucia’s passion for Venice shines through in her tours. We toured the Jewish Ghetto with her and learned SO SO much, while having a terrific time in the process. The history of Jews in Venice is complicated! Lucia used maps and illustrations to help explain and simplify, layering in more detail as we grasped the basics. As we toured, she helped us imagine what spaces we saw would have looked and felt like during the ghetto period. Her ability to guide us inside the synagogues made that experience richer than had we explored on our own. Finally, she emphasized the hidden green spaces, true gems in Venice that most tourists miss. Lucia is knowledgeable, well-traveled and fun! A fantastic guide for a beautiful city. Highly recommend!!

Lucia was a terrific guide to Venice's history of Jewish ghettos. I would recommend this tour to anyone who wishes to advance their knowledge of this rather obscure historical, 17th century, site.
