The Kayak adventure begins in Playa de los Alemanes, exploring the mangroves and lava stone reef, passing through the colorful iguana islet channel where turtles and reef fish regularly live. The next stop will be to observe the life that flies above us, lava gulls, blue-footed boobies, frigates and even tropical birds live on the wall of Punta Estrada. Moving comfortably with the current that enters Franklin Bay, we can visit the Canal of Love, a place well known for its striking colors, tranquility and presence of nocturnal seagulls. We will advance exploring the mangroves of Franklin Bay, looking for hunting seabird activity and turtles that also feed in the area. We will pass by private docks where families of sea lions rest and if conditions allow, we will explore the interior of the mangrove where whitetip sharks are sometimes found resting on the bottom. To finish the program we anchor the kayaks in a safe area and jump into the water to explore lots of underwater life with snorkeling! We return to the kayaks, paddle to Playa de los Alemanes and the program will be over.

My first activity on Santa Cruz after arriving that morning on the ferry from San Cristobal. It was glorious. The outfitter team and guide were relaxed, friendly and very knowledgeable. It was a great intro to the marine fauna, i had a fantastic close up of blue footed booby preening for his evening dive-hunt, lots of other birds, so so many swimming iguanas, the ubiquitous sea lions, and the snorkeling was a nice add on. We started later because the tide was out, so my idea to book something later that afternoon didn’t work out as well as I had planned.

Mario was our guide and he showed as many beautiful places around Franklin Bay.We saw sharks and rays, breeding pelicans and blue fooded boobies. We also had a stop to do some snorkeling. Everything was well planned and organized, we got interesting informations about plants and animals. The instructions on kayaking were short and to the point. We enjoyed it very much.Highly recommended!

Ended up being the only kayaker that morning so I got a private tour with Mario. He is probably one of the best guides I've had on one of these tours. The paddling was easy despite going out into the open ocean. With the kayak you are able to get into the small areas you can't with a big boat so you get to see way more and enjoy the quiet spots without the crowds. We saw rays, sharks, turtles, so many birds including the blue footed boobies and so many fish while snorkeling. Would highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for an activity to do while on Santa Cruz. The website says 6-4pm time range but they will reach out to you the day before to let you know when to arrive. The timing is scheduled to coincide with the tide.
