A therapeutic experience that allowed us to laugh and enjoy sitting outside in the yard with fantastic coffee drinks, friends and a sweet leader. Our final projects are keepsakes of our time in Rwanda.

  • Great experience in itself, but issues around the organization

The experience itself is great and I would recommend, but we were disappointed by the issues around it. We had booked the afternoon slot, so when we got to the cafe before the start of the experience, we were told that we had actually booked the morning session. I showed them the confirmation on my phone that clearly stated we had booked the afternoon slot, and not the morning slot. They showed us a document that was not the confirmation from tripadvisor, so I would assume that sometime when they transferred the information, there was a mistake. They told us they would call the person who is doing the weaving, and to please be patient. That was no problem at all, we went ahead and ordered food and drinks at the Cafe (which was delicious and to be recommended). However, we almost waited for about 1 hour before the person came, which also was no issue. You could clearly tell that the person showing us the weaving did not want to be there, and that she maybe had plans elsewhere? She rushed us through the process. The weaving experience should have taken 2 hours, but she rushed us so that we were done after 1 hour. You could tell she was a bit impatient with our progress, which did not give me a good feeling. I have understanding for her, who knows what other things she had to take care of, and she was nice enough to give us a little gift of hers at the end which was kind, but I found it unfortunate to feel rushed in this process. Also, considering we had such a long wait time I would have appreciated if the cafe would have not charged us for our drinks for example.

Such a great way of learning more about this unique traditional art form! The guide Junior is so lovely and knowledgeable and his passion for his art form really shines. It was so much fun giving it a go myself, especially with the magnificent view from Mount Kigali in the background. Highly recommended!

  • It is very unorganized

The operator of the activity gave us the wrong address. We were expecting a painting class where we were taught how to paint a picture while drinking coffee. The people were more intent on showing off their cultural center. The ad is very misleading. They wanted us to play drums and explain to us their center. By the time we got to the painting the sun was going down and their wasnt enough adequate light to paint. They were unhelpful in completing our paintings. They did have enough usable brushes. They were unable to provide necessary paint colors. They put oil paint with acrylic and then told us not to use the red. When he cme back he gave us coral, not red paint. We pretty much had to paint our art free style. It definitely was NOT a class. At the end of the experience. They tried to get us all to say something positive about their Center so they could put it on their social media. So much so that they followed us to our taxi and continued to hold the taxi up begging to be put on our social media. I am sure they are nice people, but their professionalism is lacking.

What a beautiful cultural and enriching experience. We did the weaving/pottery as a group and it was incredible. The masters really take their time to explain and help you with the help of a translator. You can tell these are really passionate people. The scenery of the location is also very pretty. I recommend these activities to everyone !
