This walk begins in the world-renowned Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, at the foot of Table Mountain. Here, Geoff sets the scene with stories of the Khoi Khoi people who once moved freely across this landscape, living off indigenous plants and the rhythms of nature. As the path winds out of the gardens and into the Constantia Valley, the narrative shifts through the arrival of the Dutch settlers, the shaping of the land into vineyards, and the rise of Constantia as the oldest wine-producing region in the Southern Hemisphere.
Along the way, Geoff brings the layers of history to life: how traditional plant medicine was used for healing to how Constantia’s wines became coveted in European courts. The walk ends at one of Constantia’s great wine estates, where guests enjoy a well-earned wine tasting.
This is not just a scenic walk. This is a story of continuity and change, told on the very ground where it unfolded.

Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden
We begin our journey in the heart of Kirstenbosch, surrounded by the beauty of indigenous fynbos and forest. We walk beneath ancient trees as the stories of the land and its first peoples unfold around us. We learn how the Khoi and San used these plants for healing, nourishment, and survival. We rise above the canopy on the Boomslang walkway, taking in breathtaking views of Table Mountain. We move through this living garden with reverence by walking in step with nature and history.
Cecilia Forest
We leave the cultivated gardens behind and step into the cool, shaded paths of Cecilia Forest. We walk beneath tall pines and ancient oaks, listening to birdsong and the whisper of mountain streams. We pause to feel the forest’s stillness that was once the lifeblood of old Cape Town’s water supply. We follow winding trails where early explorers and woodcutters once passed in silence and awe. We walk gently, sensing the power and memory held in this living, breathing forest sanctuary.

The Kirstenbosch to Constantia Wine Walk with Geoff was easily one of the best days we had in Cape Town. Starting in the world-famous Kirstenbosch Gardens, we followed winding trails up through forest and fynbos with sweeping views across the city and mountains. Geoff’s storytelling along the way gave so much depth, from the San heritage and traditional plant uses to the history of Constantia as South Africa’s oldest wine region. The walk itself was perfectly paced: steady but not rushed, with plenty of time to enjoy the scenery, ask questions, and soak in the atmosphere. Reaching Constantia Glen felt like arriving at a hidden jewel. The wine tasting and leisurely lunch overlooking vineyards and mountains was the ultimate reward after the walk. What really made this special, though, was Geoff. He has that rare gift of weaving history, culture, and nature into stories that make you feel connected to the place. It wasn’t just a hike or just a wine tasting, it was a journey through Cape Town’s landscape and soul. If you’re visiting the city and want more than a standard tour, this experience is absolutely worth it. Wear good walking shoes, bring your curiosity, and prepare for one of the most memorable adventures you can have in the Cape.

The walk itself was stunning starting in the world-renowned Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, moving through beautiful indigenous forest and mountain trails, and then descending into the Constantia Valley.
