Kyoto is one of the most famous spots to visit in Japan. Therefore, during the day, it is hard to see everything peacefully. In this tour, we start early to beat the crowds! We visit Fushimi-Inari Shrine, Kinkakuji, and Arashiyama.

‘Nick’ was a brilliant guide. He looked after the group while getting us around on public transport. He was knowledgeable, attentive and passionate about the history and culture of Japan.

Great tour. Covered a lot of ground. The guide was great at helping us navigate trains and travel to multiple locations.

(Sam) Soichiro Doi was in touch by WhatsApp a couple of days before our tour, & due to heavy rain on our scheduled tour date was good enough to accommodate our request to move our walking tour to the next morning when the rain abated! My husband & I enjoyed our walking tour with Sam’s informative narration. We had a stop at a nice cafe for a drink too. As we had another VIATOR kimono draping/tea ceremony to get to by 2.15pm , Sam was so good in finding us bus options, but in the end as there was a taxi stand right outside of the Golden temple & we took that option & Sam clearly instructed our destination to the taxi driver.

We visited three sites outside central Kyoto – north, west and east of the city core – which we may not have been able to visit on our own. We’re glad we did and appreciated having Aoi Yamaji as our guide. She was helpful and knowledgeable, and very skilful at corralling our small group on busy trains and buses as we moved from site to site – and, to be clear, despite the early start, there are still a lot of people everywhere in Kyoto at this busy time of year (April). There is much to see in Kyoto, but we would recommend the three stops on this tour: Fushimi Inari Taishi Honden (home of the Thousand Torii Gates), the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest and Kinkakuji (the Golden Pavilion).

If you only have 1 day in Kyoto- this is the best tour to see all the major sites by 1pm. Getting there early was great to beat the crowds! Kota was the best part of the trip- he was an excellent guide! He had so much knowledge of the culture and his English was very fluent. He was professional and kept a great pace and made sure we got where we needed to go safely and timely. It felt like we were friends by the end.
