Guatemala City
We pick up passengers from most hotels in Guatemala City or Antigua Guatemala. The ride to Lake Atitlan is full of pretty little towns along the road, you'll see how the scenarios change from the city to agriculture, and stunning views until you get to the lake. So just sit back and enjoy the drive. It is important to mention that this is a curvy road. We would recommend you get motion sickness medicine in case you need it.
Panajachel
We'll take a water taxi to start the journey to San Juan La Laguna, one of the most picturesque towns on the lake, where you will see a lot of Mayan culture. Let's go!

I gave this 3 stars because of the views. The itinerary states, "we will participate in 3 cultural workshops: One of the natural dyeing of textiles, one of the medicinal herbs used by the indigenous people, and a chocolate workshop." We only did the first one. Also I requested an English speaking guide in my booking. 5% of the tour was in English. I did reach out to the company via What's app, however nothing changed. I also stated how we didn't follow the itinerary according to the description. The guide truly did what he wanted to do. I basically paid $300 for a bus ride. We were supposed to also spend time in Panajachel, " We will visit Santander Street. It is the town's main street, with many textiles and other souvenir shops. It is also the street where more restaurants and hotels are located. Finally, we will go to the dock, we will enjoy the beautiful views of the lake and its volcanoes.". When we arrived we got off the bus and went directly to the dock. I'm assuming that although I paid based on the description, because the guide had his own itinerary or maybe because the driver needed to eat breakfast and we spent and hour or more at some restaurant, that's why I didn't get to do all that I paid for.

A very long walk all day, where you visit 3 villages around Lake Atitlan. Departure time 5:45, meet you at your hotel, in our case they arrived and left us, did not wait 10 minutes or warn and left. We had to wait more than an hour for a private to pick us up at a Very comfortable bus. Mr. Carlos resolved quickly so that we would not lose the tour. It is more than 2 hours to arrive in the middle of curves, climbs and descents. I recommend drinking something for dizziness, The scenery is spectacular, you see volcanoes and lake. We visit San Pedro, San Juan and Santiago, the most picturesque clean and tidy is San Juan. There's the textile and honey factory. Santiago is the largest but lacks order and cleanliness, from here we liked a viewpoint with a beautiful view and Tuk tuk taxis. The return was chaotic, we were sent an awkward and tight small bus for 3 hours of return. They just put the air conditioner on for a while and then turned it off. We arrived more tired of the journey than of the same tour. Be sure to order comfortable transportation. The village tour was good

The Atitlan Lake tour is a cultural and adventure experience because you sail in the middle of the lake to move between different villages. Although I had some complications the average managers always gave the best solutions and exceeded my expectations on many levels. I will definitely choose them for future trips.

This experience was amazing and I truly enjoyed myself as a solo traveler from the States! Ruben is an excellent tour guide and very knowledgeable! You can ask him anything and he’ll have an answer for you! We did a lot during the tour and learned a lot from the textiles to the chocolate factory!

The tour company said they would pick me up at 7am but didn’t show up until 8am. Although the tour was good, they take you to all the tourist traps along the way. This isn’t really catered to solo women exclusively

This was a fun day! We got to visit 3 towns along Lake Atitlan; breakfast was included, which was nice. We had to pay for lunch, but it was worth it. The guides were very helpful, happy to take photos, and answered all my questions. I withdrew one star because the communication regarding transportation to the lake was not clear. I had to take a taxi to a closer hotel super early in the morning, because apparently my hotel was not within their pickup range. It's also a shared shuttle to get to the lake, meaning that the minibus will be packed and the people you ride with aren't necessarily all going to go around the lake with you (once we arrived, we were split into smaller groups with different people of about 8-9 total). That's good to know so pack light, because you won't be able to leave your belongings in the bus, since you will be changing bus at the end. You also ride back with whichever driver is available at the end of the tour. The ride is very long, try to get a window seat so you can take in the stunning views. Also bring a snack or two and some water! I also really loved the different activities that we did in each Mayan town. We got to visit an apiary (don't worry, those bees do not bite!) and see a textiles demonstration at a women's coop. We also had the chance to shop around for Mayan textiles at the end, which was really nice.

Late writing this review, went in July 2022, not July 2025. But the tour was outstanding and I just forgot to come back here to tell. The drive up to the lake was through some scenic areas, very enjoyable by itself. Took the boat across the lake to the village. Village was very touristy, but the vendors were well prepared and informative about their crafts. Please note that the main street is uphill all the way and it is STEEP, so be prepared for the climb. Bought some paintings from local artists, some artisan chocolate, and some hand-made place mats for my table that I'm using now. After coming back across the lake in the boat (and forgetting my hat in the boat), we had lunch in a nice restaurant overlooking the lake. The staff was very nice. A great way to spend a day, see some fantastic views of the local area, and find some handicraft souvenirs.

We had a wonderful experience with Gua2Go on our private tour to Lake Atitlan and San Juan La Laguna. From the first moment, everything was very comfortable and well organized. We were picked up on a private bus directly from our hotel, which was ideal travelling with children. Our guide, Eduardo, was amazing. Very patient, friendly and excellent with children. It led us to discover the magic of San Juan La Laguna, where we learned as a family about Mayan textiles, natural medicine, beekeeping, chocolate making and many other local traditions. The children loved to participate and ask questions, and we all enjoyed the interactive demonstrations. It was a very enriching and fun cultural experience for the whole family. We feel safe, well cared for and connected to the local community thanks to Eduardo. We recommend Gua2Go 100% for families looking for something authentic, educational and memorable in the Lake Atitlan area.
