You’ll learn and use great fishing techniques like trolling and using the downriggers, with help from a friendly, expert skipper. Our boat runs on a quiet electric motor, so you can enjoy a smooth, eco-friendly ride while staying close to nature.
With small groups (max 6 people), you’ll have plenty of space to fish and relax. We’ll provide all the gear, snacks, and non-alcoholic drinks—you just bring your excitement and enjoy the thrill of the catch in one of New Zealand’s hidden gems.

5.00This was such an incredible experience! I booked for my partner and I and they were accommodating and very educational to every question we asked. Ended catching 7-8 fish in total as a group and had fresh Sashimi off the back of the boat and gotten to take our half home to cook up ourselves! Would recommend this to anybody wether experienced or not, we had an amazing time, thankyou everyone involved ❤️

5.00Olly is an excellent fisherman and host. Really knows the lake and where the fish are. I booked an afternoon trip and was worried it was the wrong time of the day but it was pretty much non stop action. Great experience. Highly recommend.
Great New Zealand Fishing Experience

5.00Catch a Fish provides an amazing fishing experience. From the support finding the right trip for our group, securing licenses, helpful and responsive communications, timely meeting, fantastic boat, great equipment, knowledgeable and personable guide, seamless process to get us in the water and quickly fishing, they did everything right. Yet, fishing is fishing and the catching is never assured. However, in our case, Ollie (our guide) got us in the right spot and we had action the whole time bringing in many beautiful fish. We enjoyed one sashimi style on the boat with wasabi and soy sauce. Kept one large brown trout (he cleaned and vacuum packed it), followed his cooking directions and enjoyed it for dinner that night. In both cases the flavor, texture and freshness made the experience memorable. All of the other fish were returned to the cold lake waters and, hopefully, enhance this wonderful adventure for others. 5.00It was a truly exciting experience! I was a beginner and honestly worried because I tend to get seasick, but Ollie was a very kind and patient instructor, which made me feel at ease and confident enough to join. The waters of Lake Hawea were calm, so I didn't get seasick at all. In three hours, we caught a total of five fish: Brown Trout and Rainbow Trout! (My husband let two get away, haha.) The trout became our dinner that evening, and we had such a wonderful time. I would absolutely love to join again when I come back to New Zealand.
