What To Expect
Addis Ababa – Fly to Lalibela | Asheten Mariam Church
Addis Ababa
Arrive in Addis Ababa and take a domestic flight to Lalibela. Upon arrival, hike up to Asheten Mariam Church, perched on a mountain with panoramic views of Lalibela. This gives a beautiful introduction to the spirituality and landscapes of the area. Overnight in Lalibela.
Day 2: Lalibela Rock-Hewn Churches

Spend the day exploring Lalibela’s remarkable rock-hewn churches, a UNESCO World Heritage Site often referred to as the “New Jerusalem.” Discover intricately carved interiors, hidden passageways, and experience the spiritual atmosphere. Overnight in Lalibela.
Day 3: Excursion to Nakuto Le’ab & Surroundings
Lalibela
Drive to Nakuto Le’ab Church, built in a cave and known for its natural spring. Explore the nearby temperate highlands with scenic views and a chance to see village life. Return to Lalibela for overnight.
Day 4: Lalibela – Addis Ababa | Half-Day City Tour
Addis Ababa
Fly back to Addis Ababa. After arrival, enjoy a half-day city tour, visiting the National Museum (home to Lucy), Holy Trinity Cathedral, and Mount Entoto for sweeping city views. Overnight in Addis Ababa
Day 5: Addis Ababa – Drive to Hawassa via Rift Valley Lakes
Drive south through the Great Rift Valley. Stop at Ziway Lake and Abiyata-Shala National Park, home to ostriches, antelopes, and scenic volcanic lakes. Continue to Hawassa, a peaceful lakeside city. Overnight in Hawassa.
Day 6: Yirgalem Coffee & Sidama Culture – Return to Hawassa
Irgalem
After breakfast, drive to Yirgalem to visit a coffee farm, take part in a traditional coffee ceremony, and experience Sidama culture, including the preparation of kocho (false banana bread). Return to Hawassa for a lakeside walk. Overnight in Hawassa.
Day 7: Hawassa Fish Market – Return to Addis Ababa
Addis Ababa
In the morning, visit the lively fish market on Hawassa Lake, where fishermen bring in their catch and vervet monkeys play along the shores. Spot endemic birds and enjoy the local atmosphere. Drive back to Addis Ababa with scenic stops for photos and coffee. Evening transfer or overnight in Addis – end of tour.
