After meeting in Leblon, we head towards the Roberto Burle Marx Site, located in a lush tropical area on the outskirts of Rio.
The visit offers an immersive journey into the life and work of one of the most influential landscape designers of the 20th century.
You will explore extensive tropical gardens, discovering a remarkable diversity of plant species and understanding how they were used in landscape composition.
We also visit a 17th-century chapel, as well as the house where Burle Marx lived, which holds part of his personal art collection.
The experience includes access to his two studios and, offering a deeper understanding of his creative process and artistic vision.
Throughout the experience, you will gain insights into his design, work and life.

Sitio Roberto Burle Marx

The visit lasts approximately 1.5 to 2 hours and offers an immersive journey into the life and work of one of the most influential landscape designers of the 20th century. You will explore extensive tropical gardens, discovering a remarkable diversity of plant species and understanding how they were used in landscape composition. We also visit a 17th-century chapel, as well as the house where Burle Marx lived, which holds part of his personal art collection. The experience includes access to his studios and the main hall, offering a deeper understanding of his creative process and artistic vision. Throughout the experience, you will gain insights into his design philosophy, his relationship with Brazilian nature, and the cultural context that shaped his work.

A Garden Lover’s Paradise with a great guide

5.00A group of friends and I, had a wonderful time on our tour of sitio Burle Marx. Patrícia is a fantastic guide. Her enthusiasm for the gardens and house is contagious. Our tour included transportation from Leblon to and from the site which made the experience easy and fast. During the ride to the sitio, Patrícia gave us descriptions of where we were and brought books for us to review. It is a well thought experience from start to finish. The sitio is garden lovers paradise. Truly spectacular nature and gorgeous destination. Patrícia has been my guide for other city tours as well and I continue to choose her bc she is reliable, knowledgeable and her tours are fun. She loves Rio and it shows! I recommend to everyone who visits Rio.

5.00I always feel safe with Patricia when I travel with her. She is trustworthy, always on time and a great communicator. Her tours are great value for money and she has very good attention to details on her tours. She offers a range of tours and activities in Rio and its surroundings, including lovely bike tours to the Flamengo parque, Lagoa, Jardim Botânico etc. She also offers trips to places like Ilha Grande, Búzios, Petrópolis and Fazenda Aliança etc. I can also highly recommend joining her to Sítio Burle Marx. She is knowledgeable about plants and knows every corner of Rio. A true Carioca.

5.00Our visit was made at the suggestion of our guide Patricia Silva , who once worked at the Burle Marx garden. It was made particularly rewarding by having her with us. It was a most enjoyable three hours we spent on out tour.

5.00We are a couple interested in architecture and ecology, so naturally we were excited to visit the Sítio Burle Marx! Unfortunately, we were also in Rio without a car, which meant getting there would involve either 2-3 hours of public transit or a very expensive Uber ride. Thankfully, we found Patricia’s tour and we’re so happy we did! It was a cloudy day with a light drizzle, which might sound unpleasant for an outdoors experience but actually meant the plants were incredibly vibrant. It’s difficult to describe in words how beautiful this place is, it simply must be seen to be believed. Patricia worked there as a tour guide for years and has such deep knowledge and love for Burle Marx, his gardens, and the many artworks on display here. She is well-versed in both botany and art history, so we learned a ton about the thousands (millions?) of plants that comprise this “living museum” in addition to Burle Marx’s extensive collection of Arte Popular Brasileira. Patricia customized the tour a bit to focus on the elements of the place we found most interesting, and got us into the greenhouses to see rare flowers that bloom only briefly and rarely. This was our absolute favorite day in Rio, and I recommend Patricia’s guidance wholeheartedly!! *Tip: Remember to bring snacks! The Sítio does not have a restaurant!
