Le Marais
Start by understanding the historic importance of the Marais, which once laid beyond the center of Paris. Today, it is at the heart of the city. Discover the Church of Saint Paul and Saint Louis before walking through the courtyard of the majestic Hotel de Sully. Continue experiencing the royal history of the Marais by exploring the pristine Place des Vosges, a public square with unparalleled beauty in Paris. Afterwards, move forward in time to learn all about the bustling Jewish community that put the Marais on the map through the 18th and 19th centuries. Wander the bakeries and boutiques of the Pletzl before strolling the shop-laden rue des Francs Bourgeois. All the while you’ll discover mansion after mansion, former homes to the nobility that once called the Marais home. Some are now museums, like the highly worthwhile Musée Carnavalet. The tour may also introduce you to both the Hotel de Ville, or City Hall, and the Pompidou Center, both architectural masterpieces from very different periods.
Eglise Saint-Paul Saint-Louis
We will start our tour by visiting the 17th century St-Paul-St-Louis church, which was built by the Jesuits after a design inspired by that of the Gesù church in Rome.

Edem Mele our tour guide was excellent. She was informative and super pleasant to spend time with. The tour was a perfect mix of Marais' history, Jewish influence and the community it is today. We think this was a highlight of our trip.

Before the tour we understood that Le Marais had been shaped by history and wanted to know the specifics. Hugo, our guide and lifelong student of history, was incredibly knowledgeable and interesting. We walked the area and learned about the architecture, the changes caused by revolution, and the influence of certain people. The tour was well worth the time and money spent.

Our guide, Alasdair, was outstanding—informative, engaging, and an absolute delight throughout the tour. He thoughtfully covered the Jewish heritage of the area and clearly explained how it intertwined with the broader history of France. We came away with a much deeper understanding and appreciation. I highly recommend this tour!

I had the best experience today exploring Le Marais District & Jewish Quarter with our guide Hugo. Hugo is extremely knowledgable and passionate about French and Parisian history, stories were fun and engaging, and I was really impressed with his storytelling. Made me want to learn more about history of Paris. This was one of my favorite guided tours in Paris.

My friends and I spent 2.5 hours with our wonderful tour guide, Eden. Though a native Parisian, Eden spoke English fluently and shared a wealth of fascinating information about the history of the Marais district and was great at answering all the questions we had. She ended the tour with recommendations for dining and other spots to visit. Highly recommended!

Our experience with Babylon Tours in Paris was nothing short of wonderful! Our guide, Hugo, was engaging and personable, weaving stories from his vast knowledge of history. His tales really made the city come alive. Hugo’s professional yet friendly demeanor made each moment enjoyable, and he gave charismatic insight into both the famous and the hidden gems of Paris. It was tough to get two teens out of their beds but they were thrilled they went on the tour. Thank you for such a memorable adventure!
