Dornoch Cathedral

Sitting on the edge of the Dornoch Firth, the small historic town of Dornoch boasts a tranquil location, stunning scenery and sunny climate. This thriving community sits on the east coast of the north Highlands that runs from the Moray Firth up to Sutherland. It is blessed with a particularly sunny climate thanks to its sheltered position, and has miles of golden sand beaches. The beach stretches from Dornoch Point heading past Embo beach to the mouth of Loch Fleet National Nature Reserve. Adjacent to the beach is a Site of Special Scientific Interest that features nesting birds, flora and fauna. And for those keen golfers, tee-off on the Royal Dornoch championship course, ranked 13th in the world.! The coast is also a favourite with wildlife such as seals and a sizeable population of both breeding and wintering birds.

Outstanding tour with local driver that knew the history and the stories of the area. Depending on how many sign up for the tour you may ended up with a personal private tour as my daughter and I did. This allowed us to spend more time at the castle so we could fit in a full tour of the castle, the gardens and see the incredible falconry show- it can not be missed and other tours don't spend enough time at the castle for this to happen! Johnny was the best ;-) I have mobility issues and he worked around that

We had a private tour with Trevor. It was a fantastic day and we went a little off the beaten path. He was very friendly and knowledgeable and very keen to show us hidden gems along the way. He grew up in the area and he and his family are still there. We never felt rushed and Trevor was very flexible and easy going. Would highly recommend Trevor to show you around and take you on a highland countryside adventure that you won't commonly find elsewhere.

Jonny was a wonderful companion, who safely chauffeured us, told us a lot and who repeatedly allowed a photo stop. The tour was wonderful, the length of stay at the sights matched.

We had a terrific day with Johnny! He has lived here all his life & knows every hill, building, fisihng hole etc.! He was always waving or honking at people he knew as we drove to the castle & they were responding with smiles. The castle was one of the most luxurious that we have ever seen. So many things are original and donated by the Sunderland family, it felt very personal touring this castle. The falconry display is fantastic! The gardens are beautiful and extensive. The views of North Sea are magnificent. Johnny took the "B" roads and we saw so much of the countryside, farming, crofts, sheep, cattle and he knew the plants - Scottish heather! A highlight day of our trip!!

Disappointing Aspects 1) Directions to meet guide were old and not correct, which led to confusion/angst to trying to find our guide. Fortunately, other guides from other agencies were around to help us and they ended up calling our guide to find him. 2) Guide was under dressed compared to other guides - not a professional appearance; hard to understand at times; superficial knowledge of the scenery along the way to/from the castle. He didn't even know much about the castle that was the main attraction of the tour. 3) Vehicle was clean. However, it was an older model with doors that were hard to close, back seats that were hard to enter/exit, and had an air conditioner that didn't work. Other Notes 1) The guide was nice, friendly and tried to be helpful. 2) The castle was very nice to see, not fabulous. 3) The falcon show on the castle grounds was excellent.
