Liwa Oasis
Historic Liwa Oasis lies at the northern edge of Rub’ Al Khali (the Empty Quarter) — the world's largest uninterrupted desert. Liwa Oasis benefits from a water table that lies close to the surface and which has supported agriculture and animal husbandry for generations. This creates a dramatic contrast in the landscape between green date palm groves and tall orange-red sand dunes. The Liwa Oasis extends in an east–west arc for more than 100 kilometres and features some of the world’s largest sand dunes, with many rising more than 150 metres in height. Travelers can have a picnic lunch in the middle of the Oasis.
Moreeb Dune
Situated in Abu Dhabi's majestic Al Dhafra region, Tel Moreeb is considered by many to be the world's tallest sand dune, at over 300 metres high, with its 50-degree incline making it a prime destination for motorsports enthusiasts.

The Liwa desert was amazing – endless dunes and really peaceful. The 4x4 dune bashing was fun, and the stops for photos and the oasis made it feel like a proper escape from the city. It’s a long day, but worth it if you want to see the real desert.

Once the dunes appeared, especially Moreeb dune that golden light, rolling sand, quiet sky...it felt like stepping into another world. Just plan for a long day, travel prepared, and let yourself slow down when you can.

Our Liwa full day safari was truly unforgettable. Driving through the endless golden dunes, far from the city, felt like stepping into another world. The silence of the desert, the thrill of dune bashing, and the breathtaking views left us speechless. Watching the sunset over the Empty Quarter was magical. It was a peaceful, soul-refreshing experience—simple, raw, and deeply personal. A memory we’ll always cherish.

The dune bashing experience was wild and thrilling! Our driver was skilled and made the whole ride feel like a rollercoaster — up and down the towering dunes with the sand spraying across the windows. I couldn’t stop laughing (and screaming a little!). It was the perfect balance of adrenaline and awe. One of the best parts of the day was stopping at the top of one of the highest dunes and just… being silent. No cars, no noise, just the wind and the sheer vastness of the desert. I don’t think I’ve ever felt so small and so peaceful at the same time.

My trip to the Liwa Desert was nothing short of magical. I’ve been on desert safaris before, but this one in Liwa — deep in the Rub’ al Khali (Empty Quarter) — felt like I had stepped into a different world altogether. We started early in the morning, and as we drove out from Abu Dhabi city, the landscape gradually changed from modern buildings to endless golden dunes. By the time we entered Liwa, I was completely captivated. The dunes here are taller, more dramatic, and untouched — like nature’s own masterpiece.

Liwa isn’t your typical desert safari. This place feels untouched — like you’re in the middle of nowhere in the best possible way. No crowds. No buildings. Just miles and miles of golden silence. Our guide was amazing — super knowledgeable, calm, and respectful of the land. He shared stories about Bedouin life, desert survival, and how Liwa used to be home to ancient tribes and camel caravans.

I don’t even know where to begin — this Liwa full day safari was nothing like the usual touristy desert safaris. It was raw, vast, peaceful, and honestly… kind of life-changing. We started early in the morning, leaving the city behind and heading deep into the Rub’ al Khali (Empty Quarter). The drive itself was beautiful — endless sand dunes that got taller and more dramatic the deeper we went.

This was a stunning experience in all senses! Shafeel was an excellent guide and driver - he took care of every detail and really made our day! The desert drive was full of thrills, amazing sights and opportunities to feel in touch with the environment. The oasis setting for lunch was authentic and beautiful and the food lovely. The sunset - a photographer’s dream - was a perfect end to a perfect day.
