Cannery Wharf, located at 387-395 Commercial Street in Provincetown, Massachusetts, was historically one of the town’s most picturesque and frequently painted wharves, known for its offset pier sheds and cupola, which created a striking composition. Originally owned by David Conwell in the 19th century, it served as a hub for outfitting whaling and fishing vessels. In 1882, L. Pickert & Company revitalized it as a fish-packing and canning operation, with the adjacent Small’s Wharf used for smoking fish. The wharf was damaged in 1926 when the Coast Guard cutter USCG Morrill sliced it in half during a storm. In 2019, the Town of Provincetown acquired the half-acre waterfront parcel using Land Bank funds and a $400,000 grant, transforming it into Cannery Wharf Park
Provincetown Library
The Provincetown Public Library, located at 356 Commercial Street in Provincetown, Massachusetts, is a cultural and historical gem housed in the historic Center Methodist Episcopal Church, a Second Empire-style building constructed in 1860. Converted into a library in 2002, it serves as a community hub, offering books, digital resources, programs, and events. Its iconic feature is a half-scale replica of the schooner Rose Dorothea, a 66-foot fishing vessel, displayed in the main reading room, commemorating Provincetown’s maritime heritage. The library also houses a significant archive of local history, including the Anthony Bourdain Collection, donated in 2023, featuring manuscripts and materials from his time in Provincetown. Open year-round, it’s a vital resource for residents and visitors, blending historic charm with modern services.

Cathy’s an experienced local guide that can tailor your tour based on your interests. We covered a bit of history, arts, food, entertainment, local culture, and the natural environment in a short time. We learned a lot of interesting historical and cultural tidbits about Provincetown that we would never have noticed on our own.

Cathy was awesome! Never a dull moment and even though I’ve been coming to P-Town for years I still learned a lot! Will be taking her scary tour in October for sure!

Such an informative and lively tour of Provincetown. This was a tale of two travelers- I’m from New England and learned lots of new facts and enjoyed a classic lobster roll. My husband is from the south, has never been to the cape and is iffy on lobster- he loved the lobster roll and said it may have just changed his mind on lobster and he’s a huge Anthony Bourdain and history junky and got all he could ask for from the tour!

Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about Provincetown. We enjoyed learning about the history of the town and seeing historical areas that we would have overlooked not knowing they were there. I’d list a couple but wouldn’t want to spoil the surprise for others. We also enjoyed the treats that we experienced during the tour.

Took the family (16 year old triplet girls and wife) on this fun foodie tour in Provincetown. Our guide Cathy was so much fun! She was so knowledgeable and gave us an insider’s tour of this great seaport town. Highlights were the lobster rolls, Portuguese fried dough and roasted banana ice cream! We loved learning all about the early days of Cape Cod and the fascinating history about all of the renknown artists, authors, chefs and playwrights that began their careers in P-Town. As an Anthony Bourdain fan, it was aspirational to hear about how he got started and worked his way up from dishwasher to Food Icon. Cathy made this a memorable and fun experience!
