When they say “a short city tour” in Lucerne, they mean that the guide will escort you from the bus to a nearby place where you are each handed a map and the guide says “be sure to be ready to board the bus at 5:30, but we may be late, so you will have to wait for us if we are.” Then the guide disappears. Very little to do in Lucerne. There are a couple of small churches that are on the map which are nice, but no real artwork, no museums or anything like that. They solicit customers saying, “As an art lover, you should not miss paying a visit to the Rosengart Museum…” A Rosengart Museum isn’t on the map. I found a “Kunstmuseum” by myself but it was shut down. They do include a ticket for a boat ride that is supposed to include a commentary. There is no commentary. They announce over the loudspeakers when we leave the dock, and again when we return. That’s all. It does kill a little time. Then we show up for the bus at 5:30 which doesn’t show up until 6:00, with the excuse that “there was a traffic accident and we can’t help that.” Reading other reviews here, it appears that this is a regular excuse for being late. I have no idea where the driver and guide disappear to for six hours. So most of the day is wasted, just sitting around waiting for it to be over.

Lucerne is a lovely town with beautiful views, old town and lots of opportunities for chocolate shopping. Definitely worth getting the boat trip and taking your swimming things for a swim in the lake. Bernadette was a wonderful tour guide.

Don’t do this. They drop you off at Lucerne and leave you there and return about 7 hrs later to get you. There’s no short tour of Lucerne includes as advertised. I recommend instead buying a train ticket and going to and from yourself

Self-guided with lots of walking in Lucern. Very crowded. Piers to get boats confusing. Beautiful city and would like to spend more time there in the future.
