Malta National Aquarium

The Malta National Aquarium has 52 tanks, including reptiles, insects, and amphibians, as well as Mediterranean fish, including fish that can often be found in Maltese waters, and historical artefacts that can be found in the seas around the Maltese islands. The main tank inside the Aquarium measures 12 meters in diameter and contains a walk-through tunnel that allows visitors to see the fish much closer. A variety of Indo-pacific animals are housed here, including black tip sharks, zebra sharks, rays, and other exotic species. An iconic curved shell structure resembling the shell of a starfish houses the Aquarium. The adjacent promenade provides pedestrians with additional recreation facilities, which include a children's play area.

  • Small, neat and good with children

The Malta National Aquarium in Qawra is on the smaller side, so do not go expecting huge sharks or sea monsters. Taken on its own terms, though, it is a pleasant and well-presented visit, especially with children. The displays are neatly marked in English, and the explanatory text is readable, interesting and pitched well enough to keep younger visitors engaged without exhausting the adults. It makes for an easy family outing rather than a grand expedition. If you are not too hungry after the visit, it is worth walking along the promenade towards Buġibba Beach, about ten minutes away, where there are cafés and small shops. Ubers and Bolts get you everywhere nowadays, no need to buy expensive tours. We found La Nave, the restaurant attached to the aquarium, overrated and unnecessarily expensive. The outdoor café area was the better option for us: a more relaxed place to sit for a while with an ice cream, beer or coffee.

  • Nice experience but very noisy when there are groups of tourists: bad equipment

While we were looking for the tranquility of the bottom of the water, we met many school groups. Their companions were equipped with microphones to explain the different areas which was incredibly noisy: to review for equipment via audio guides to let people enjoy? Luckily we had received a discount through the Malta Heritage Pass otherwise we would have regretted our money.

  • Not essential despite the publicity that is made of it

Having seen large aquariums (without Sebastian, Monaco, La Rochelle), we imagined it bigger. The decorations on the other hand in the aisles are very well done. We visited it in 45 minutes. The city around is pretty depressing

  • A typical aquarium experience

This aquarium is much like any other, ie it’s over priced and over crowded. The exhibits are ok but nothing special, although we did find the iPads informative and helpful. One suggestion is that pushchairs and bags should be left at the start as there just isn’t room for them. Tip: to avoid potential queues at the entrance and save a few Euro buy your tickets online

  • A scam national aquarium

Beside that it was 17 EUROS, I had to wait a long long long line and it was very populated there so I was suffocating and I couldn't breath. Beside from that it has not any fish or big one just some tablets and normal fishes. There's something about deep seek there but it's just a bad simulation very bad. There were like only 11 tanks. The staff were okay I guess. The length of visits were huge. This is the best for to lose money at a scam.

It's a pretty nice made aquarium only little for the price and totally crowded (may also be on today's holiday). Caspar was especially funny!

The ticket exchange experience could be better. Lady selling the tickets was very short and did not seem happy at her job. The aquarium was small but cute. Cool to walk through the tunnel and see sharks swimming around you. Took maybe an hour plus change. The deep sea experience was cool but if you get motion sickness forgo getting on it.

  • Nice and carefully executed, rough staff in restaurant

It’s a great feeling to see what things look like when EU fundings isn’t stolen. The place is beautifully built, with creative aquariums and terrariums. In some areas kids can even stick their heads into the terrarium through a plastic bubble, and there are tunnels with fish swimming around you. I think it’s definitely worth the price. Animals seem to be kept OK-ish I only gave it 3 stars because of the restaurant staff. When we asked where the toilet was, a woman rather rudely asked why we were wandering around there. She pointed irritably and said “It’s there, madam.” With that kind of attitude, her job should be frying potatoes at McDonald’s in the back. Needless to say, we didnt had our meal and coffee there, rather choose The Kiosk in 5 minutes walk.

The aquarium is fantastic, really good value for money and a diverse variety of marine life But why 5 stars Well the staff, are just fantastic, my mother is wheel chair bound, with limited mobility, and they were fantastic and accomodating, and just made the trip brilliant. Only downside was the cafe, (which I don't count as the aquarium), they were VERY slow, and made mistakes on our fairly simple order
