Materuni Waterfalls
Materuni is the home of the Chagga tribe and is still an authentic tribal village. This charming place is just 15km away from Moshi Town and is the last village before the Kilimanjaro National Park. First you will visit the waterfalls, which are around a 40-minute walk away. On the way, trail can be slippery & muddy best to have good hiking boots. The views are truly breathtaking, and with some luck you will see the summit of Kilimanjaro. When you reach the waterfalls, you will see that they are more than 80 meters high. The pool at the bottom of the waterfall is an inviting place for a refreshing swim so don‘t forget your swimwear! After having enjoyed the scenery, you slowly return with your guide to Materuni village, where you will experience a traditional Chagga lunch. You also will have the opportunity to taste our local banana beer – definitely not to be missed! Tip: Chagga tribesmen are Tanzania’s finest brewers
Materuni Waterfalls
But that’s not all. Next the coffee experience awaits you. Here you will learn how coffee is cultivated, dried, roasted and further processed. You will also be invited to help with the grinding of the coffee, which is traditionally accompanied by Chagga songs and dances - a fun way to immerse yourself in the local culture. Before you say goodbye, you can savor the coffee you made and appreciate the views of the surrounding rainforest.

We recently took the Private Tour to Materuni Waterfalls, coffee tour and it was simply outstanding from start to finish. Our guide, Mr Enoke from Safari Soles was incredibly caring, knowledgeable, and attentive — a big reason this trip felt so special. From Arusha, the journey began with a comfortable ride to Materuni village. Once there, the 40-minute walk to the waterfall was peaceful and beautiful, weaving through lush forest and coffee plantations. Along the way, our guide shared stories about Chagga village life, local flora and fauna, and even pointed out interesting plants and their uses — it really made the hike much more than just a scenic stroll. When we reached Materuni Waterfalls, we were in awe: the waterfall is powerful and the pool at the bottom inviting — a perfect spot to relax, soak in the natural beauty, and even take a refreshing swim. Back in the village, we were treated to a delicious traditional Chagga lunch, full of local flavor. Then came one of my favorite parts: the coffee tour. We learned how coffee is grown, roasted, and ground the traditional way — and got to participate. We'll never forget sipping a freshly ground cup of Tanzanian coffee made from beans we helped process, all while locals sang and danced in celebration of their coffee heritage.

The hot spring looks very clear and beautiful, but unfortunately there is no way to get water in the period, there are bamboo tubs and swimming circles to use, but you have to pay extra. Coffee tour is also very interesting, to see how the locals make coffee, but it will sell you to buy coffee, the lunch offered is very local characteristics and is delicious.

Innocent was an excellent guide - preparing the way for each experience, explaining everything in advance and then it working out very well. The waterfalls were quite stunning, and we arrived before the crowds; it was fun making my own cup of coffee from “husking” to “ winnowing” to grinding and cooking. Delicious. Lunch was a multitude of delightful flavours - and after the descent from the mountain, perfect to relax in the clear pool waters. An excellent driver and good company, I highly recommend Innocent and the tour.

Enock was an amazing guide for day trip! Super fun and easy to talk with throughout the day. Wasn’t expecting the waterfall or hot spring to be so cool!! And the hot spring is actually pretty cool water which was refreshing because it was super hot out! Also we have done a couple of coffee tours and this one was by far the most unique and fun! Request Enock as your guide!

It was our last day of 3 days safari and it was absolutely amazing. We have seen such an amazing view along the way it was like getting into a paradise and we didn't want to leave. We have also experienced making our own coffe and we really enjoyed the way it was explained and how interactive expeince that was. The hot spring we beautiful too we we Lucy to get there early in the morning so there was no crowds and we could enjoy the views peacefully and make great pictures. We were also lucky as we could see the turtle and some lizards there! Enock was an exceptional guide he made us feel very well taken care off and was very knowledgeable and always happy to answer all our questions. Big plus that he is actually funny too. Overall we could not ask for a better end to our safari definitely highly recommend him to everyone.

We had an amazing day with Safari Soles and our guide Mussa. The waterfall views were unbelievable, and the coffee tour exceeded all expectations. We picked, roasted, and brewed our own coffee while the locals sang and danced, making it so fun and memorable. The swimming pool had one of the clearest water I have seen, and the staff were super friendly, even helping with photos and videos. Overall, a perfect day and we highly recommend Mussa and Safari Soles.

A great experience with Enuck and Innocent! On the long journeys that lead us to the (top) experiences we shared our customs and cultures: Our habits, our stories, how our countries work, cooking, sports, our landscapes and the animals that go with it! The experiences (approach to the waterfall, coffee tasting, hot baths) are really great! Thank you very much and look forward to sending you recipes!
