  • Fantastic Merino Farm Experience

Wow!, an incredible afternoon with Marie, who is very friendly, knowledgeable and so passionate about their merino farm. From taking us up to the top of the farm, for breath taking panoramic views, to the shearing shed learning of the fleece classification to the process of the fibre into garments and Meeting her pet sheep that loved to be petted. Thank you so much Marie, we both enjoyed the farm experience and we throughly recommend everyone to visit.

I loved this authentic merino sheep farming experience! Our hosts Terry & Marie were incredibly welcoming, sharing their livelihood & home with us. We saw their working dogs herd the sheep, learnt how the sheep are sheered and the wool graded / processed. Afternoon treats of home grown fruit and veg enjoyed in their garden. What really came through was their genuine passion for animal welfare and longevity of farming on the land. Highly recommend supporting this family run farm!

We had a wonderful experience visiting the merino farm. There were only two of us on the tour, which made it feel very personal and relaxed. Our guide, Maria, who lives on the farm, was incredibly kind, welcoming and shared great insight into how the family-run farm operates. We saw several areas of the farm with a wonderful view, watch their dog Rose skillfully bring in the sheep, and learn about the production process through an informative video, their stories and seeing it. And we even got the chance to pet some of the sheep and feel their wool. Maria and her husband were both very hospitable and made us feel truly welcome. It was an authentic, informative, and memorable experience, and one we will definitely remember. We highly recommend a visit to anyone interested in farming, merino wool, or a genuine local experience.

Today’s sheep farm tour was one of the most memorable experiences of our New Zealand holiday. From the moment we arrived, we were immersed in authentic farm life on a sheep and cattle farm that’s been in the same family since 1884. Maria, our guide and a resident of the farm, shared her deep knowledge and passion with us firsthand. Watching the working dogs in action and bottle-feeding a young lamb were absolute highlights. We gained a whole new appreciation for merino wool after seeing the entire process—from shearing to shipping to the garment makers. This wasn’t just a tour—it was a window into a way of life, rich with tradition and care. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to connect with the land, the animals, and the people who make New Zealand so special.
