The monasteries of Meteora impose a dress code for visitors. Men are required to wear long trousers and shirts with sleeves. Women must wear skirts that fall below the knee (trousers are not permitted) and cover their shoulders. Alternatively, women can use a long scarf wrapped around the waist to meet the dress code requirements.
The monasteries of Meteora only accept cash for the entrance fees (€5 per person/monastery).

Kastraki
At the bottom of the Holy Meteora Rocks and not far from Kalambaka is located Kastraki (translated as small castle in Greek). This picturesque village took its name from a small Byzantine castle, whose ruins are still saved today.

5.00Our guide was great explaining the history of the monasteries of Meteora and sites. At each stop, we could explore the buildings and museum on our own. It was obvious that a mini van was the way to visit the area. Parking for cars was almost non-existent.

5.00Fantastic tour. Trust me- you do not want to try to visit the Meteora without a tour guide. Meteora gets packed and there are zero places to park and the driving can be dangerous. Our tour bus picked us up at our Air BnB. We learned the history behind Meteora and each Monastery. We did not feel rushed and all. Highly recommend.
