Welcome to the coastal city of Tanzania. Despite the beautiful beaches along the coastal line, you can still enjoy a full day day trip to Mikumi national park. This is Tanzania’s fourth-largest national park, with a landscape of baobabs, black hardwood trees and grassy plains, and the most accessible from Dar es Salaam. With almost guaranteed year-round wildlife sightings, Mikumi makes an ideal safari destination for those without much time. Within its 3230 sq km – set between the Uluguru Mountains to the northeast, the Rubeho Mountains to the northwest and the Lumango Mountains to the southeast – Mikumi hosts buffaloes, wildebeest, giraffes, elephants, lions, zebras, leopards, crocodiles and endangered wild dogs, and the chances are high that you’ll see a respectable sampling of these within a short time of entering the park.

As many other reviews state, this is a long day. Our day was 4 am-9:30pm, and it's largely dependent on traffic. What I loved about this tour was the fact we had the same vehicle and guide leaving our hotel in Dar Es Salaam all the way to Mikumi, through the park, and all the way back. Given you leave so early, bring comfort items (pillows!) and catch some sleep on the way there. Michael was our guide, and not only was he an expert and safe driver navigating the Tanzanian traffic and wild tracks, he's knowledgeable and kind. He also had an inverter and universal power strip to charge phones and cameras. A good experience and our wellbeing was always his first priority. Mikumi itself is lovely. If you only have a day (and it needs to be a *full* day), this is the perfect way to get wildlife if you can't get to Serengeti, Arusha, or any of the further flung parks.

The tour was good and I had fun, the way was long but it worth the experience, I was lucky to see couple of animals and in groups, I would like to thank the tour guide he was so kind to answer all my questions and to make this trip really good and enjoyable. He picked me up and stayed all way up and down for 16 hrs. So he deserve the thanking. If you visiting for a day or have tight schedule here then definitely go for that tour it’s nice

Michael was a great driver and guide! He was very knowledgeable about every animal and answered all my questions. As the description indicates it is a VERY long day (about 18 hours) but if you only have one day to do safari this is the way to do it! Nice buffet lunch. Bring snacks, sunscreen, a neck pillow for the car rides, and sunglasses.

We saw every animal we hoped to see. It was incredible, our driver Muhammad was great and he knew the park really well, he was accommodating and made the long car journey comfortable!

The drive around the park. Seeing the animals and the information from the guide. They do their best for us to see all the animals.
