More expensive and not private - a bit of a letdown

3.00Our guide Jose was good. He was good at communicating and on time and had a lot of knowledge about the Panama Canal. He bought all of our tickets for us ahead of time which saved time. He was a good driver as well. However, I just don’t think that the trip was worth all the money we spent and the advertising was a little misleading as we thought we were having a private tour. The Panama Canal experience was definitely cool, but we did not need a tour guide for it as we were just out with everyone else. And in fact we didn’t even get the best viewing platform even though we were there early. We were down low and the guide had my adult son (who was higher up and had a good view) to come down so we could hurry to the imax movie. We missed the line to enter, but every seat was good so it was unnecessary to rush in. This was a once in a lifetime experience for us and we didn’t have the time we wanted. The sloth sanctuary was a huge disappointment— we had to wait for a very large group to join us for a lackluster tour that ended at a few sloths which just slept and weren’t shown to us. No interaction at all. The zip lining was fun, but again we had to wait about 30 minutes for a couple other large groups to join us and having a guide there was not necessary except that he stayed with our stuff in the car (there were lockers at the zip line). Just not what we thought when booking a “private” tour and we could have saved a lot of money doing it by ourselves.
