This was a great way to spend a day! It was nice to get outside the city of Barcelona and explore the beautiful mountain top of Montserrat! Tour guides were all nice, especially our guide Judit. She did a great job with a wine tasting at the beautiful vineyard and the lunch was delicious. Met a lot of very nice people as well. We highly recommend😁

We had a fantastic time! It was the full day with lunch. Our guide Alejandro was great. Very pleasant, knowledgeable and very personable. He explained so much about Barcelona, Monserrat and the winery. Yes Monserrat has alot of tourists, but it was breathtaking to see. The winery was nice. The only thing was, I would have preferred wines aged a bit longer then 6 months for the tasting. We live in wine country and enjoy sampling better wines. A great trip to add to our memories! Thanks Alejandro!

First of all, kudos to our guide Luca who made the experience for our family of six with ages 40-76 and minor mobility issues relatively bearable. It was a stressful, unnecessarily rushed trip, and I respect that the guides have to work within the confines of their company and infrastructure. About the tour itself. We started our day relatively late around 945AM (unsure why), meeting at a large bus station full of tourists. Castle Experience has their own office booth at the station and we're directed to one of the many buses, where our bus group is cobbled together with different tours. Our bus of 50-60 passengers had a broken AC, despite one of the lady guide's claims (not Luca) that it would eventually work. I asked if we could take a different bus for later parts of the trip given the stress on my elderly parents. That lady guide claimed the buses were subcontracted by the company and they had no control over which buses were assigned, and no guarantee we would not be on the same bus. She then proceeded with her rehearsed introductory speech on the bus, while jokingly mentioning that the guides would like to be well tipped. This is the first time in the Iberian Peninsula (I was in Portugal a week earlier) that guides have actively solicited tips from me, whether in jest or not. That's when I started realizing the day was not going right, and I would be constantly shuttled about with a dizzying combination of groups. Arriving at Monserrat close to 11AM, I quickly realized it's a massive tourist trap. The place, history and intentions are great, but the sheer volume of tourists and unfettered crowd control means busloads of tourists are continually arriving and taking the short train ride up the mountain. By the time the initial guided explanation was done, it's around 12noon. We're given a few options of walking to a tiny farmers market, visiting a museum or taking a 40min roundtrip hike (50min-1hr if you take it slow with pictures) to a large cross on a cliff. There's a shorter hike available too, but chances are if you're going to hike, you'll go all the way. Since we had choir tickets at 1PM, we basically have no real options left. And we're expected to depart at 140PM. So you have to ask why couldn't the tour start even 30 mins earlier? Likely because the current Montserrat tourist trap system is designed to process as many tourists as fast as possible throughout the day. After Montserrat, we boarded a different bus with a NEW set of tourists. We're driven to a historical 1000+ yr old estate Oller del Mas, a family who used to be potters ... until 50 yrs ago when they decided to become vinters. Arriving around 230pm, we see NONE of the vineyard staff, because the entire experience is led by our tour guide. That is the weirdest vineyard tour I've ever been on. I've been to new vineyards before, pedigree doesn't matter if they can produce great wines and experiences. I was hoping the might've had some renown/awards, but that didn't seem to be the case. The tapas is really just a small charcuterie board with a random assortment of pastries, cured meats and cheeses you can find in a bakery/grocery store. The wine and water glasses are completely caked in white limescale stains. There were no reserve wines for tasting, everything was 3 - 18 months old. Despite being a historical site, the estate itself was pretty simple with nothing noteworthy to see. If there were, we certainly weren't led to those areas. We depart around 345pm for Barcelona. We find ourselves with yet another group of tourists. It's actually funny, because we see the different tour guides surprised to see each other and proceeding to catch up with one another during all the bus rides. On the way back, we're told all tips are shared, including with the bus driver. Because the bus driver is actually part of their team. So that directly contradicts what the first guide said. Which means either one of the guides is lying, or the operator's system is so convoluted they have no idea what's going on themselves. The worst part is, I don't think paying more for a private tour would've improved our experience. I don't know what giving more money for a private experience could do. All the locations at and around Montserrat have become tourist traps, and the area isn't a particularly famous/great wine region either. The current tourist system just made it all worse.

Wear good walking shoes . If you want to see the boys choir, book it way in advance . Take time to try the samples at the outdoor market. At the winery after the lunch and wine tasting walk to the reception and get a view of the wine cellar. If you want to walk to see the cross, be prepared for an uphill climb but you will get it a clear view of the monestary.
