Montserrat
Montserrat is a mountain top monastery situated on top of an unusual rock mountain. It is the highest point of the Catalan lowlands. Montserrat monastery hosts “la Moreneta”, also called Black Madonna. The legend says that the benedictine monks found the statue, and they could not move the statue to build their monastery, so they decided to construct it around the statue. Montserrat was designated as a National Park in 1987. Nowadays, it is a site of pilgrimage for people around the world. Once in Montserrat, enjoy a 45-minute small group guided tour, and then you will have 2 hours to explore on your own. You can visit the Museum, taste the monastery’s homemade liquor, go for an easy walk to Saint Miguel's cross for an incredible viewpoint, go up the Sant Joan Funicular, take wonderful pictures, buy local products from the farmer's market, and more.
Abadia De Montserrat
The origin of the monastery is uncertain, but it is believed that the Virgin of Monsterrat (La Moreneta) was found around 880. (8.30 am and 1.30 pm tours include tickets to La Moreneta). According to the legends, the monks built the monastery around the statue. The monastery still functions to this day with over 70 monks. The basilica of Montserrat began its construction in the 16th century, and now houses an art museum. It is also the place where la Escolania, one of the oldest Boys’ Choirs in Europe, performs during religious ceremonies (you can listen to them on the 9.30 am tour).

I highly recommend MK and his guide to Monte Serrate. This is one of the best travel resources I’ve ever used for Bogotá! MK’s information is incredibly thorough, practical, and up-to-date, covering everything you need to make the most of this iconic spot. He breaks down all the ascent options clearly: the cable car for panoramic views without the effort, the funicular for a classic ride, and especially the hiking trail (with its roughly 1,600+ steps and steady uphill climb). His tips on timing—go early morning for cooler temps and fewer crowds, or later afternoon for stunning sunsets—were spot-on and helped us avoid the worst lines and weather surprises at 3,152 meters elevation. What really sets MK’s guide apart is the thoughtful detail: safety advice for the altitude (hydrate, take it slow if you’re not acclimated), what to expect at the top (the beautiful Basilica, the devotional atmosphere, the viewpoint overlooking the sprawling city, plus food stalls and souvenir spots), and even insider notes on trail conditions, maintenance closures (like Tuesdays for the path), and how to combine it with nearby attractions like La Candelaria or the Gold Museum. Thanks to MK’s clear, engaging guidance and spot-on recommendations, our visit felt seamless and unforgettable. We opted for the hike up (about 1.5–2 hours for us at a moderate pace) and cable car down—perfect balance of adventure and ease. The views were breathtaking, the experience spiritual and invigorating, and we felt fully prepared every step of the way. If you’re planning a trip to Bogotá, do yourself a favor and follow MK’s Monte Serrate guide. It’s reliable, passionate, and makes what could be a touristy spot feel like a personal discovery. 10/10—thank you, MK, for elevating our entire Bogotá experience! (Highly recommend for first-timers and repeat visitors alike!)

MK (Mirak) was an incredible guide for our Montserrat half-day tour from Barcelona! His deep knowledge of the monastery’s history, the Black Madonna, and Catalan culture made every moment fascinating and meaningful. He was incredibly kind, friendly, engaging, and went out of his way to ensure everyone felt comfortable and supported—especially during the more spiritual parts of the visit. The scenery is breathtaking, but MK’s storytelling and enthusiasm truly elevated the entire experience. Highly recommend booking any tour he’s leading—you won’t be disappointed! Thank you, MK, for making our trip unforgettable! 🌟

Angie was a great tour guide. Even though it rained all day this was still an amazing day. Angie shared information about the history of Spain on our way there which was interesting without being too much. The amount of time at the Montserrat was just perfect. Well worth including the boys choir. Highly recommend

I chose this tour specifically because the title and inclusions clearly listed the "Boys Choir," even though there were cheaper options available. However, the actual experience was a complete deception. Despite booking the 9:00 AM departure as scheduled, the guide simply dismissed the choir visit, claiming we should have booked an earlier start time. In reality, the choir was set to perform just 30 minutes later, but it felt like the guide was rushing us back to the city early just to avoid potential road traffic. It is misleading to advertise an impossible schedule as an "included" feature. After a two-hour round trip, the guide only gave a brief 30-minute explanation around the monastery, and the remaining two hours of free time were nowhere near enough to truly experience Montserrat, especially since funiculars and mountain trains were not included. You can easily visit for under €20 using the R5 line or the Julià bus, or even by just booking a simple transportation-only service. This tour offers zero merit as a guided experience, so please do not be fooled by the "Included" tag and look for better alternatives.

Having someone else do the driving to get there, and then explain exactly what to see and where to go was incredibly helpful. Allowed me to simply enjoy the experience and take it all in. Our guide was insightful and getting there early in the morning before other groups really helped.
