Alms Giving Ceremony
5:30am Rise early to the sound of the temple gong, then join your guide a walk through the quiet streets. Watch the daily procession of three hundred young Morning Alms Ceremony monks walk silently by, collecting sticky rice and other foods in their bronze bowls. The ritual is linked to a Buddhist tradition in which monks beg for their daily food as a way to demonstrate humility. Almsgiving is an important religious act in Buddhism and it must be carried out respectfully by locals and tourists alike. If you would like to be involved in the offering of food, your guide will be more than happy to show you the best way to interact with monks. Watch as the monks disappear down the road in a long, saffron-colored ribbon. Feel free to take photos, but please use discretion and refrain from using your flash.

Our host was great, fun and really informative - First we enjoyed the quietness of the Alms Giving Ceremony with the locals down our street very early and then joined our tour. Is was incredibly moving experience with the locals and we were invited to take part. When we joined up with our tour and taken to the main area it was a little disappointing to see disrespectful tourists but still an incredible experience. We then had a delicious morning tea on the river and then to the morning markets which were amazing.

Beutiful event but growded of turists who are not respecting monks; not govering shoulders and knees, shouting, running around and taking selfies.

We truly enjoyed the spirituality of giving food to the procession of buddhist monks walking to their temple early morning. This is a very quiet and enlightening experience and one must observe and respect the etiquette while trying not to infringe the monks humble spirituality. We were fortunate that the procession walked right in front of our lovely hotel (My Dream Boutique Resort) and that our hotel prepared a symbolic meal of sticky rice and crackers, and also explained how to participate, including the strict dress code. While still a unique photo opportunity, one must not forget the religious context should participate with dignity and respect.
