World Heritage Cruises

9am daily your cruise departs Strahan Your first point of interest is Hells Gates, the narrow-channel entrance from the wild Southern Ocean to Macquarie Harbour. Continue along the harbour to see aquaculture pens stocked with thousands of ocean trout and Atlantic salmon. Your first stop off the boat is Sarah Island, a one hour guided tour on the island conveys a keen appreciation of the harsh conditions at what was Tasmania's first and perhaps most notorious penal settlement. Step back on-board and while enjoying your lunch you will cruise slowly along the majestic Gordon River and rediscover serenity while gliding deep into the ancient rainforest. Disembark at Heritage Landing for a stroll along the boardwalk through the Unesco listed Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers National Park and see the hushed, lichen-covered rainforest and one of its oldest inhabitants a 2000-year-old Huon Pine tree. Board once more and sit back and relax while you make your journey back to Strahan.

The boat was fantastic, the food great and the itinerary excellent. We were encouraged to wander around the boat and even allowed on the bridge and chat to the captain. We disembarked the boat for a guided tour around Sarah island which was excellent and the guide really brought the experience to life. The second stop at a rainforest was a very different story. A different guide, on their own didn’t explain anything until we reached an overcrowded spot. The spot was too small for the group and many of us could not hear what was being said. After the talk was given myself and my wife politely explained to the guide that many of us couldn’t hear what was being said. In front of some of the group we were rudely! and aggressively told that there was nothing she could do about it! Arriving back at the boat we reported this to another crew member who did take it seriously and tried to make amends. Presumably a more senior member of the crew she apologised for her colleague and offered my wife a drink as way of an apology. This was really appreciated. However the crew member herself made no attempt to apologise for her actions despite having a number of opportunities to do so. A reel shame as this one person un did all the hard work of her fellow colleagues.

  • A great experience, which exceeded expectations. A credit to the local, family-owned and operated business

I am not generally one to enjoy ‘guided tours’. However, this one is exceptional. Firstly, the vessel. She is around five years old and, clearly, expense was not spared in the fit out. Further, the maintenance is top notch. As a family-owned business, they take pride in her presentation. Secondly, the crew. They were all personable and efficient and obviously enjoyed their work. The guides, both at Sarah Island and at the landing on the Gordon River were excellent. The Master ran an open wheelhouse, which was very interesting. Apart from the running commentary, there were a series of audio-visual presentations during the day which were very well crafted. Finally, the lunch and morning/afternoon teas were excellent. All in all, a great experience.

  • Absolutely first class

What a thoroughly enjoyable day out. The vessel is superb, the narration first class, and the experience 10/10. The lunch was really nice, and the ability to access the helm and chat with the skipper was a great privilege. It’s a must do trip.

Fantastic day on the Gordon River and learning the history of the area, the river and Sarah Island. Informative video running inside on large screens. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff. A particular mention for a super lunch - airlines could learn a lot from what was served. Highly recommend.

This was a great experience while visiting Strahan. We had Sarah from the Round Earth Co. who do the play in the evening as our guide on Sarah Island. Definitely recommend doing the play in the evening after the cruise.

  • A Majestic part of Australia

When in Tassie if you're seeking a majestic experience - then you must do a Gordon River cruise out of Strahan. The cruise from the boat (Harbour Master ll), seating, staff both at the reception & onboard to the 6hour cruise in now an etched memory for me. The Gordon River & its surrounds are pristine in beauty - but it all comes with history & stories dating back to the convicts arriving in the 1820s'. This trip is a must do. I'll be returning again.
