We did the Kabuye hike and camping with the family, and it was a great experience. The team were very professional and helpful at all levels. Special mention to our guide Aimable, but also to Theophile, who attended to all our needs and requests in the camp, and to Innocent, the kitchen chef. Keep in mind that this is a difficult hike. It requires 3 to 4 hours to reach the camp. The ascent is quite challenging, so make sure that you have the right shoes and gear. Also, make sure that you ask the agency all the questions, because many areas were missed. Overall, a great experience to share with the family or friends.

Day 1: Hike Mt Kabuye (2700 m, 3 h walk). Overnight in tent camp. Day 2: Descent to Lake Ruhondo (4h walk), boat and lunch at Peace Heaven on an island in the lake. The top! Beautiful landscapes, cultures, villages, volcanoes. All with a professional team Beyond the Gorillas experience.

That was a great hiking.... beautiful, very spectacular landscape, friendly people. The guide was very nice, supportive and talkative, he gave a lot of information about the local people, the education, the culture and the agriculture of the country.

I had an incredible experience with Beyond the Gorillas on Mt.Kabuye in Gakenke District, and I can’t recommend them highly enough! From start to finish, the team made every moment memorable and enjoyable. Special thanks to our amazing guides, Habihirwe Theophile and Irakoze Esther, who went above and beyond to share their deep knowledge and passion for Mt.Kabuye and the beautiful environment. Their warmth, professionalism, and expertise made the trek truly special. They are, without a doubt, the best guides anyone could ask for! A huge thank you also goes to Ikundabayo Gabriel, My porter. His discipline, helpfulness, and kind support throughout the journey made everything easier and more enjoyable. I couldn’t have done it without him! If you're considering a trek with Beyond the Gorillas, don't hesitate. This team will make your adventure unforgettable! Planning for MUHUNGWE soon!! Lenin.G

We booked a hike up including camping at Mount Kabuye with Beyond the Gorilla Experience, and it exceeded our expectations! The trip was incredibly well-organized, and the team was fantastic—friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. The food provided was delicious, adding an extra touch to the adventure. The tent setup was comfortable, and the bonfire experience at the top of the mountain was unforgettable. We truly enjoyed every moment and highly recommend this adventure to anyone seeking a unique and memorable experience out of Kigali!

The whole trip at Mt Kabuye was perfectly organized and we absolutely loved it. I would recommend doing it in two days which is what we did. Not because it so tough, but so you have more time and an overnight stay at the beautiful campground on top of the mountain. It's 3 hours up and 2 hours down. Not very hard, but extremely slippery downhill after the rain. Everything is taken care for... Guide, porters, snacks, water, food and drinks at the top, tent, sleeping bags etc. It's beautiful up there with some of best views in Rwanda.

Recently I hiked Mt Kabuye for the second time, as I wanted to show the beauty of this lovely mountain to a friend visiting Rwanda. I chose Beyond Gorillas Experience again, as they are very well organised, reliable and not expensive. And they do help the communities in the area you are trekking through. You pass by villages, a local school and you discover real rural life, which is what you won't see in a national park. The hike is about 3 hours up and 2 hours down and can be slippery, so should not be underestimated. The most amazing thing is that once you reach the summit, a delicious 3- course warm lunch is waiting for you, prepared by a passionate cook. Camping on the summit is also possible. If you have 2 days, you could hike all the way down to Lake Ruhondo on day two. Mt Kabuye is said to be the third highest non-volcanic peak in the land of the thousand hills. Altitude gain is about 1100 meters. I was very lucky that on this Kabuye hike Esther was again on my side, one of my all time favourite nature guides in Africa. She can tell you everything about the nature and culture of the region and is very helpful and friendly. Her smile will bring you to the summit. Enjoy.

We had planned to do the hike by ourselves but were told about Beyond the Gorillas Experience and how they can arrange for a chef to prepare the meals at the top of the mountain. We contacted them and they arranged for everything the day before. They were fast, and so professional. The food was great as well as the service. Would recommend them to anyone!
