Oshino Hakkai
Oshino Hakkai are the eight springs found in Oshino, Yamanashi, Japan. The aquifer water from Mount Fuji comes out to the ground to form these springs. They are a Natural monument of Japan, part of the Mount Fuji World Heritage Site. Winter offers a particularly stunning vista of the iconic mountain. That vista is the striking “Diamond Fuji” phenomenon, which can only be seen from certain places due to the position of the Earth. Diamond Fuji is when the rising or setting sun aligns perfectly with the peak of Mt. Fuji, as though the caldera is cupping the sun. A small open-air museum, the Hannoki Bayashi Shiryokan, surrounds the largest pond. A small admission fee is required. The water in the Waku Pond is especially clear and clean, and visitors are encouraged to drink it and even take some home in a bottle. It’s a great place to buy gifts and souvenirs, street food is amazing as well.
Mt. Fuji 5th Station
The highest peak of Mt Fuji (2200m) that is accessible by car, interesting for the hikers. This is the closest point to view the top of Mt fuji. You can have a splendor view of the city from the view points. P.S The station is reached by the Fuji Subaru Line, a scenic toll road up Mount Fuji's lower northern slopes, that begins in Fujikawaguchiko Town. The toll road costs 2100 yen and may temporarily get partially closed in winter in times of heavy snow. Furthermore, the road is closed to private vehicles during most of the climbing season (July 5 to September 10, 2024), during which shuttle buses operate between designated parking lots at the base of the mountain and the 5th station.

What trip to Tokyo is complete without visiting Mt Fuji. Despite heavy traffic Shah made sure I saw all the views of Fuji. We visited shrines and temples as well. I have many great memories of my day.

A cold, cloudy day with a smaller that expected van that squeezed in 6 adults with our guide and driver Mr. Fahad Khanz - we didn’t expect to sight Mt. Fuji through the thick cloud cover. I cannot say enough about our guide Mr. Khanz who very quickly made us forget the 3 adults squeezed in the back seat of his van, as he regaled us with stories, anecdotes and history driving us to all the most postcard-like-perfect world heritages villages and sites and stopping at every blooming cherry blossom, waiting patiently while we took as many photographs and sampled snacks, fruit and soft serve cones all day long. His knowledge and understanding of Japanese culture, people and customs adding a new perspective to the sights and the spectacular viewing of Mt. Fuji as he waited patiently with us for the clouds to part, over an hour or more, so we could view Mt. Fuji in all its majestic glory. He did not care that we exceeded our time limit by about 2-hours on this tour, finding so much joy with us in the grand sight of Mt. Fuji at the end of the day! Mr. Khanz is meticulous and caring with every little detail - lunch arrangements, shopping as also the stories and his added perspective of Japanese people, their customs and practices including interesting anecdotes of daily life in Japan. I highly recommend the tour and Mr. Khanz.
