Discover a foragers paradise on this day trip to a pristine Finnish national park. This excursion is packed with adventure, education, and delicious food.
This guided tour from Helsinki immerses us into the forest and the magical world of fungi. Bright oranges, golden yellows, and deep reds decorate the forest floor. We are in search of Finland's most delicious and prized edible mushrooms, the chanterelle.
However, as the name suggests, it is a hunt! We will not always find what we are looking for, and although most of the mushrooms are harmless, there are many poisonous ones too. But not to worry, for your guide will be able to show you which are edible and is always available to explain about the different fungi you have found.
Highlights:
• Forage with a professional guide in a national park
• Learn how to identify specific edible mushrooms
• Help prepare and cook your wild fungi finds
• Enjoy a Finnish-style lunch by the campfire (Dietary needs? Let us know when booking)

Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma
Meeting point is front of Kiasma museum, address: Mannerheiminaukio 1H (searchable on google maps). It is 500 meters from Helsinki Central Railway station. Kindly be on time at the meeting point. The drive to the national park takes 1 hour and 20 minutes, including a brief bathroom break.
Liesjarven Kansallispuisto
Once we have arrived at Liesjärvi National Park, our group will begin their hike through the forest to some of our favourite mushroom picking spots. Your guide will tell you what mushrooms can be picked and eaten. When our group has gathered enough mushrooms, we will make our way to the campfire by the lakeside. While your guide starts the fire and prepares a traditional Finnish-style lunch with campfire coffee, there will be plenty of time to take photos, enjoy conversation and relax by the nature. After lunch the guide will lead you through the forest back to the car and it's time to return to the city. -- Dedicated to sustainability, this tour proudly carries the Sustainable Travel Finland label and Green Activities certificate. We ensure everyone is treated equally and warmly invite you to join us for an adventure that contributes positively to the environment.

Mushroom Hunting with Taiga Times was one of the best experiences I had on my 2 week trip across Northern Europe. Our guide Jeff was fantastic and super knowledgeable about mushrooms and all other plants and animals that we encountered. The guide in training Mary was also polite and funny making for a wonderfully charismatic combo with Jeff. They really made us feel welcome and elevated the experience significantly. 10/10 highly recommended!

I was able to enjoy Finland in autumn in a national park. Lunch was also served, but the mushrooms I picked myself were very good. Our guide Jeff was very kind, and there were many others, so it was good to take the plunge◎

This was such a fun experience and allowed us to get out of the city for a bit a breathe some fresh air. Because we went to a smaller and less popular national park, there were still blueberries and lingonberries we were able to forage in addition to the chanterelle mushrooms we set out to find! Our guide knew exactly where to find them, so we were able to have some yummy butter sautéed mushrooms on rye toast at the beautiful shelter by a lake. The salmon soup was yummy, and other treats as well. On the hike back we found some porcini mushrooms as well our guide was very stoked about making for his dinner! Was the hike challenging? No, it was very flat and the trail was wide and easy to navigate. A great idea for someone who wants to dip their toes into the outdoors and get out of the city on their trip.

This outing was a great way to spend a day in the forest in Finland. Our guide was charming and knowledgeable about foraging for mushrooms and berries. We enjoyed a delicious lunch of smoked salmon soup, prepared by our guide and mushrooms that we had foraged that morning. I enjoyed our day immensely!

It was great to get outside the city and see the forest. The mushrooms were plentiful and gigantic, bigger than anything I’ve ever seen. The guide was great and I would highly recommend the experience.

I can highly recommend the tour with Taiga Times. Jeff is a very knowledgeable and pleasant guide who gave us a great introduction into the art of mushroom hunting. We had a lot of fun and found plenty of chanterelles and some other mushrooms with which Jeff prepared a tasty lunch. There were even mushrooms left that we could bring home for an omlette on the next day :)

I would give this tour 100 stars if that were an option. Our guide, Alex, was incredibly kind and knowledgeable about the flora and fauna of the forest. We found some mushrooms and had a delightful meal of mushrooms and salmon soup. I will absolutely book this tour again if we return to the Helsinki area.

I very much enjoyed the trip. Alex was a great and easy guide, everythings was well prepared and oranized but also not too rigid. It really was a care-free fun day out in the woods!
