Nandana Tea Factory
Curious about how the Tea you drink is brought to your table from the Tea Estates? We have answers for you! We provide factory tours, Estate & Herbal Garden visit and Tea tasting session with optional meal at the end of tour, an experience you don't want to miss! Matara, a southern Sri Lankan coastal terrain, a land well known for its thriving fishing, diverse vegetation, stretch of paddy cultivation, intellectual pursuits, and architecture until late Mr. D.A Wanigasekara (1860-1955), one of the pioneer tea planters in this region made the history by venturing into tea culture in 1910. Nandana Tea Factory (NTF) is situated in Akuressa, bordering the wide expanse of waters, the Nilwala Ganga (Blue River). NTF makes premium orthodox black tea, maintaining the age-old tradition, preserving intrinsic aroma, taste and quality. NTF stamped its mark in the country as the best producers of low-grown tea, under the proficient guidance of its managing director, Mr. Gunasoma Wanigasekara.

The kind gentleman who took us on a tour did an incredible job. Learnt many interesting uses of natural products, even got some aloe Vera on my sunburn. The tea plantation was breath taking and all staff were very polite. Seriously a must do.

This was such a great visit! We actually got to see each process of making the tea leaves. The food was delicious, clean and authentic. They had a clean space with air conditioning. We felt so good here and will definitely recommend to our friends and family.

A wonderful place, the owner of the factory gave us a tour (in English), told us many interesting things about the different plants on the territory of the factory. We tasted 7 types of teas that are produced at the factory, and we really liked the tea. We purchased quite a lot of varieties of teas. They also kindly treated us to lunch and ice cream, which was doubly nice! We recommend everyone to visit!

Thank you to Gunasoma (and wife), Manshijt, and ChoopoolMandrit. We signed up for the 2.5 hour Methsiri mini adventure. It was a 40 minute drive in the back of a landrover to where our tour started (from Akuressa). It was great to see rubber trees, and how they collect the latex, the real jungle and landscape (saw some wild monkeys too), how cinnamon bark is collected, tea plantations, and more. Gunasoma's English is excellent, and he is very knowledgeable. It was only about two to three km walk, but you need to be able, and it can be slipper. It was ok for my six year old daughter. We had lunch at the end, an excellent selection of dishes made by Gunasoma and family in his new middle-of-nowhere 'hut'. We really enjoyed our experience. The staff were very friendly and we were made to feel very welcome. Thank you Nandana tea staff! However, I didn't read things carefully or I misunderstood. We did want to see how the factory worked and the tea was made. I now don't believe that is part of the Mesthiri tour. Gunasoma kindly let us have a factory tour (at Akuressa) and a tea sampling at the end because we wanted to do that. I would recommend that you clarify that you want this in advance, because really that's why we were visitng Nandana - it's all because of the tea!

Super friendly and courteous. A lot of time was spent on a guided tour of the herb garden, the factory and finally also for the tasting. Highly recommended!

We had an extraordinary time in this tea factory. A very kind young man first introduced us to the tropical garden by explaining the virtues of different plants. We were able to taste some of them. Then we took a short trip through a small jungle and continued by visiting the manufacturing plant. Finally, we were allowed to taste several types of tea. Admission is not subject to charge. He's just asking you to buy tea. This point is raised at the beginning of the visit. We loved it. Thank you.

A unique experience! Few tourists have yet rediscovered this highly interesting place in the hinterland. So I got the privilege of a private tour of the very dedicated factory director (in Third party generation) personally both through the extensive spice garden, the in-house jungle and the barely automated manufacturing. The commitment to environmental protection is exemplary and manifests itself, among other things, in the small biogas plant just completed.

We learned a lot about the native plants, their use and benefits during the tour of the great large garden. In the tea factory we could see the processing of the tea leaves. At the tea tasting we were allowed to try 7 different types of tea and then also bought some packages for home. In the small cafe we enjoyed iced tea and cake afterwards. A great experience that costs no admission. However, we think it is fair if you buy tea as a souvenir there and also consume something in the cafe. The prices are absolutely fair and we really liked the explanations on the tour and tasting in very good English. Everyone is very friendly and accommodating! Clear recommendation!

Family tea plantation - factory and botanical garden. Very hospitable hosts who are happy to give tours to guests if you ask them to. Detailed talk and show about all stages of tea production, its varieties and varieties, and the botanical garden is rich in growing spices and various local plants. If you're lucky, you'll see monkeys and even a crocodile))) And after the tour we tasted the teas produced. The hosts do such a tour absolutely free and with soul! We really enjoyed it! Thank you for your hospitality!
