Naoshima is the main island of a township made up of twenty-seven islands administered by Kagawa Prefecture. The island has a documented history going back to the Heian period, but today it’s known for its contemporary art museums, which draw visitors from all over the world, especially during the Setouchi Triennale art event held every three years in the region.
Since the island is part of the Seto Inland Sea National Park, there are strict rules for the visual impact of new buildings, so many of the art museums are built into the ground, creating an interesting aesthetic of their own.
・You can enjoy to go around Naoshima island by bicycle (with power-assisted bicycle, e-bike) with Private English Speaking guide.
・Chichu Art Museum (excluded entrance ticket's fee : 2100 JPY and you should buy the online tickets) *there is not possible to take a enough time to visit here in this tour )

A beautiful island but our tour guide was difficult to understand and really didn’t know much about contemporary art. Considering the fact that lunch wasn’t included in the (high) price I wouldn’t recommend this to others. Better to do your research in advance, get Google map and make your own way to the key sites. It’s easy to organise on your own and if you’re an art lover better to do it yourself.

Okita Keisuke was our tour guide and he made the experience really special. Naoshima by itself is a beautiful place but a little tricky if you don't know your way around. It was Okita's first time as a guide because he just retired, he is very welcoming, he solves any question you have and is a really interesting person. He also was super patient with my wife because the bike part was harder than she thought and she doesn't ride bikes very often, he always made sure she felt safe.

It was delightful to cycle round the island and take in the artworks. Our guide was passionate about the art and very informative. Her local knowledge meant we could fit in far more than we would have managed alone. Would recommend.
