What To Expect
Narayanhiti Palace Museum
A professional guide will meet you at your hotel and transfer to the Narayanhiti Palace Museum. Begin your visit inside the palace and gather knowledge regarding the history of Nepal. The Palace is divided into 3 sections, the guest wing, state wing, and the private wing. The 52 rooms, or sadan, are named after 75 districts of Nepal. Observe the interior of the Palace, based on late Victorian styles. See the reception hall, called Kaski Sadan, where Shah Monarchs of Nepal gave audience to politicians and performed oath ceremonies for the Prime Minister and heads of constitutional bodies for the kingdom. The throne room, Gorkha Baithak, is the center of the entire palace and located right above Kaski Baithak. To the right of the Gorkha Baithak, is Dolpa Sadan, used as the room for the uninvited guests of the royal family to view proceedings of Gorkha Baithak through a one-way viewing mirror. Court ceremonies of Narayanhiti durbar were held in Dhanusha Baithak where the king awarded decorations. Walk through the room that was used for teeka and Darsan during Dashain by the royal family. Visit a total of 19 Sadans before heading back to your hotel.

Beautiful Place with tragedy

5.00It was such a beautiful place. This trip was really inspiring and educational. I felt really sad to see the tragedy spot where the royal family was brutally murdered. Historical artifacts were really beautiful.

5.00A beautiful palace with a long history and the tragic massacre of the royal family about 20 years ago. Each room is nicely decorated and has good signage to help understand the whole palace. There is also a "back lot' to the palace contains many old cars owned by the royal family. A very nice place to visit...royalty, quiet areas, great history. Be aware that cameras are not allowed and your sling pack or purse has to be left at the front gate (in a locker) and each person must go through a security check upon entering. This is not a handicap accessible site as it has many stairs and no wheelchair ramps. Foreigners pay the usual "site fee" of 1,000 NPR (about $7.00 USD) and is worth the price. It would have been nice to have a brochure of the palace and even a place to buy postcards or small photo cards. it is worth walking across the street from the palace to the mall and going to the coffee shop to take some good photos looking down into the palace.
