The day will start a hike down the stepped path of high basaltic rock walls, taking about 15 minutes to reach the beautiful La Fortuna Waterfall, where you can swim or just take pictures and enjoy its beauty. Lunch is the next step, a delicious traditional meal will be waiting for you in our restaurant “La Finquita”, near downtown La Fortuna. After lunch, you will have some time to rest or hang out in town, before we begin the Volcano hike. We will choose one of several trails through the tropical rainforest and cross the solidified lava trails from the massive 1968 eruption. We will observe a variety of plants, animals, and rock formations. At the top of the trail we will have an amazing view of Lake Arenal. Our hike will come to an end at a lookout point where, if weather permits, you will be able to see a little vapor of pyroclastic gases coming out of the fissures at the top of the volcano. Along the hike, your guide will share interesting information about the history of the majestic volcano and its impact on the region.

Our tour was of Arenal 1968 and La Fortuna Waterfall. Booking was simple and easy, communication before the trip was clear. The tour guide, David, and our driver, Manrique, were incredibly knowledgeable, hospitable, patient, and kind. The scenery was stunning (of course!), the activities were interesting and well tailored, and the food we were served was SO delicious and fresh (liters on the companies farm!). It would be my privilege to tour with this team again!

Jason was very apologetic about the downpour of rain on our 1968 volcanoes tour and we only did about an hour hike. Can’t control the weather and it’s Costa Rica ;-). Jason was very supporting of my sister on the falls tours and kept encouraging her to the top as we walked back up. My sister was VERY appreciative. The lunch at the local jacamar farm was AWESOME and the highlight. Jason took us out to the field and my sister “harvested” a pineapple which we ate right there after Jason sliced it up for us. Great combo tour and great guide and driver !

My husband and I did the volcano and waterfall tour with Jason and Allen. The weather was beautiful, and we had a fantastic day. There were so many favorite parts of this tour it is impossible to pick one. Jason was very knowledgeable about La Fortuna, the volcano and very friendly. We really enjoyed talking with him and Allen. Jason was also very patient with my inferior efforts with Spanish! Another favorite part of the tour was seeing a baby sloth close enough to touch (but didn't)! What a rare experience, even in Costa Rica. We saw a lot of very beautiful birds thanks to Jason spotting them. Lunch was delicious. Bring a change of clothes for after the waterfall visit (the water is "refreshing"!) Bring binoculars, camera and be prepared to do a lot of walking. You need to be in reasonable shape for this tour All in all, this is a must-do tour in La Fortuna. It is worth it.

The trip was fantastic. Despite the wind and driving rain in the first part of the trip, the hike up the volcano was magical as we ascended through different zones of vegetation. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable concerning the fauna and flora, and adept in spotting birds, animals, and rare plants. Fortunately the rain stopped by the time we got to the top, and we got great views of the lake and surrounding countryside. Definitely recommend sturdy shoes and being in moderate shape - the rapid changes in elevation were a challenge.

My family and I went on this tour. Our hotel concierge at Tabacon Thermal Resort set it up for us through Jacamar Tours. Our tour guy was Shayla and she was great! She knew so much about the history of Costa Rica, the wildlife we encountered along the trail, and the geology / history of Volcan Arenal. A shuttle picked us up at 8AM and we drove about 15min to get Arenal 1968 Park. We hiked through the park until we reached the peak (it was a great spot for pictures). After, we went to La Fortuna Waterfall. There are 500 steps to get up and down to the waterfall (it was pretty exhausting, but worth it in my opinion). The waterfall was BEAUTIFUL and we got to swim near it and in the stream connected to it. Definitely bring water shoes. Many people do these attractions without a guide, but I definitely suggest setting up a guide. Shayla showed and taught us so much that we would've completely missed without her. Also, she came with us to the waterfall and told us we could swim around as long as we wanted while she sat and watched all of our stuff (clothing, water bottles, etc.). After the waterfall, we had a set up lunch at MAKOTO Sushi Bar in town and it was incredible. We felt like we were being wined and dined! We started the meal with a sushi appetizer and watermelon juice, we ate traditional Casado, and finished with a delicious parfait! Overall, it was a 10/10 experience! We were tired by the end of the day, but we would definitely do it again!

My friend and I thoroughly enjoyed this tour! Our tour guide was Jairo and our driver was Marcelo. Jairo was very knowledgeable about the history of Costa Rica, particularly the geology of the area. A shuttle van picked us up from our hotel to the main meeting point in town (Fortuna). From there it was a short drive to the waterfall. CAUTION: it is approximately 500 steep steps to get to and from the waterfall. There are several resting places, some with water, every 100 steps or so. Just be prepared, especially if you go during a humid period or have differing mobility or a chronic health condition. The waterfall was fun, but the water was bit cool in February. After the waterfall, we had a delicious lunch at a farm to table establishment (there was a vegetarian option). After lunch, we headed to the volcano. On the day we went there were great views of the volcano . Along the nature hike we learned a lot about the history of the formation of the volcano and surrounding area. After the hike, we were driven to our hotels. Overall, a very fun day!
