Our Nizamuddin tour combines the history of Delhi and its living heartbeat, winding through narrow streets, markets, and shrines alike. Nizamuddin, a predominantly Muslim quarter and one of the oldest continually inhabited areas of Delhi, houses approximately 20,000 people inside its one square kilometer. Named after Nizamuddin Auliya, a famous Sufi saint of the Chishti order whose tomb is a prominent stop on the tour, the community draws visitors and pilgrims alike to its winding alleys. On our journey we’ll visit both the sacred and the secular, from ornate mosques to the fragrant itr perfume market. You’ll learn the history of the area from its founding in the 14th century through to the present day. We’ll also stop by the shrines of Ghalib and Khusrau, prestigious Urdu poets known for their enrapturing ghazals. From the hustle and bustle of the tight lanes to the tranquil venerated sites our tour paints a vivid and organic picture of Delhi that you won’t find anywhere else!

Our Nizamuddin Dargah walk was truly one of the most unforgettable experiences of our trip to Delhi. From the moment we entered the narrow lanes leading to Nizamuddin Dargah, we felt a different energy—peaceful, spiritual, and deeply moving. Our local guide made the experience even more special. His storytelling brought history and Sufi traditions to life, from the sacred baoli to the beautiful stories of Nizamuddin Auliya and Amir Khusro. The highlight of the evening was the live Sufi qawwali. Sitting in the courtyard, surrounded by music, devotion, and people from all walks of life, was simply magical. It felt less like a tour and more like a spiritual journey. If you are visiting Delhi and want something beyond regular sightseeing, this experience is a must. Highly recommended for anyone looking to feel the true soul of the city.

We had a wonderful visit at Nizamuddin dargah. Salman our tour guide is truly knowledgeable about the history of the locations. He was really kind and has a friendly nature. My father really had a great time with Salman discussing about the history of dargah. He was really patient to listen to our queries and answered each of them politely. I also want to thank Pradeep and Annanya for guiding us for the visit. Thank you 😊 You guys rock!! regards, Nazneen Andaman Islands

We have been on many tours with Delhi by Locals over the years and have never been disappointed. This was the first time we had been to Hazarat Nizamuddin. Salman was our guide, an enthusiastic and personable young man. We learned at lot about the history of the Sulfi culture and were particularly attracted to the poet Mirza Ghalib whose tomb is in that area. However, pit is not just the history that we experienced as we were taken around many streets and open spaces where we could see life being played out in its many forms. Salman was raised in Hazrat Nizamuddin and pointed out his home where he still lives. This made the tour so special as Salman introduced us to his friends as we met them along the way. We were fortunate to be able to witness the Breaking of the Fast during Ramadan. We believe that this concept of having guides that live and breath the life of the area makes the tours so special. It is also a bonus knowing that profits from the tours help to fund the amazing work of Learning by Locals. Thank you Salman, thank you Delhi by Locals and thank you Pradeep.

We had a pleasure of joining a tour with Salman, who is born and raised in Nizamuddin. He showed us the hidden corners of Nizamuddin and talked about a past and present, ups and downs of the community and notable members. We were lucky enough to finish the tour accompanied by the sounds of mistic qawalli.

Our guide Salman was friendly, knowledgeable, and engaging. It's incomparable that he's from there and so he can share the history and traditions of his centuries-old neighborhood with special pride. Anybody can go look at a shrine--but we got the pleasure of learning what the Qawwali singer was singing about; how and why the Saint is praised with flowers and vows; and where to eat the best food. Salman's English is of course excellent. Highly recommended.

We took the walk around Hazrat Nizamuddin Basti with Salman. He was so knowledgable, and interesting with it - not just reeling off facts and figures which would go over our heads, but making the stories relatable, and memorable. The area can get very crowded and he looked out for us, including my kids, with care and attention. A really worthwhile afternoon

[French below] This tour of the Nizamuddin district with Salman, who grew up and still lives in the neighborhood, where he knows every nook and cranny, was a pleasant surprise. Salman takes you through the maze of alleyways to discover the hidden places of this typical Muslim district of Delhi, home of the Chishtiyya Sufi branch. He punctuates the visit with many anecdotes from all the eras that have shaped the district. If you're lucky, you'll be able to see and, above all, hear the qawwalis. Highly recommended!
