The highlight of any trip above the arctic circle: experiencing the magical northern lights dance across the sky. The mystery of light has given us many myths and legends over the years. Everything from heroes who lit up the sky to mysterious fire foxes and warnings of danger. The dry and stable climate in Alta provides the best conditions for seeing the Northern Lights.
On this trip we combine the excitement of snowmobiling with experiencing the northern lights dancing across the sky. We take you along the old postal road up to the very edge of Finnmarksvidda to a mountain range called Beskardes.
Far away from the lights of the city this trip provides the ideal conditions to see the northern lights in a beautiful winter landscape. If we are lucky we will get to see the magnificent northern lights dancing across the sky on our trip, or be treated with a beautiful arctic night sky.

Only the holders of a valid B class drivers license are allowed to drive a snowmobile in Norway. You are required to present your license for verification before taking part on the ride. Guests without a valid driving license are only allowed to be passengers.
You will share a snowmobile with another passenger, so each of you will get to drive half of the trip.

What To Expect
On this trip we combine the excitement of snowmobiling with experiencing the northern lights dancing across the sky. We take you along the old postal road up to the very edge of Finnmarksvidda to a mountain range called Beskardes. 17:55 Meet us at our Æverntyr Adventure Store in the city center 5-10 minutes before the start of the Tour. From here we will drive you to Gargia Valley, approx. 25km from Alta. 18:30 We arrive at Gargia Lodge. Here you will meet your guide and get a briefing about today’s trip. You will also receive thermosuits, boots and gloves for the trip. 19:00 After getting dressed you will receive a safety briefing on the snowmobiles. Now we are ready and can start our adventure. 20:00 We will arrive at Beskades. Here we will take a short stop and enjoy the amazing view in all directions before heading back down to Gargia Lodge. 21:15 We arrive back at Gargia Lodge. 22:00 We will drop you off in the city center where we started our trip. Only the holders of a valid B class drivers license are allowed to drive a snowmobile in Norway. You are required to present your license for verification before taking part on the ride.

5.00For anyone who would like to go snowmobiling for aurora borealis hunting, we were totally thrilled. Unfortunately, we did not see any aurora borealis as it snowed extremely. The guides were also great 👍

5.00We did the late night excursion in the hope of seeing the Northern Lights. Unfortunately it was overcast, so we only saw a glimmer. However that didn't detract from the trip which was great fun. The guides were friendly and helpful, and we had a great time.

5.00The experience was great. The guide was super nice and made it fun. sadly we only seen a tiny bit of the northern lights, but driving the snowmobile was a lot of fun. It was super easy to learn and to manoeuvre. Very thorough security briefing as well.

5.00We had blizzard conditions so no northern lights, but still had a great time. They supply really warm suits and driving the snowmobiling was great fun. We stopped for photos and at points of interest. Can now say we experienced proper Norway winter weather.

4.00The ride was really great but I wouldn't call it a search for aurora borealis. A quick stop, no northern lights to see and then back. But the fun with the snowmobile was great.

5.00We did whale watching with the agency, the Snowmobile Tour, Husky Sleigh Ride and the Northern Lights Tour during the day and were totally enthusiastic about everything. Super guides, great and very sympathetic team!

5.00We had a great time in this tour! The nature is simply breathtaking, and riding snowmobiles is so much fun (even if you don’t see much lights). More importantly, our guide John was an excellent tour guide. Not only did he explain things well to us and looked after us throughout the activity, he also made the trip so much fun! My 10 yr old son sat behind him on the snowmobile and had such a blast!

5.00Not a cheap experience but well worth it. Also far cheaper than the one organised by our tour operator. We were picked up from the cruise terminal by our lovely guide John and taken out into the middle of nowhere. Had it not been so cloudy we’d have had perfect conditions for the northern lights. We were kitted out in the correct gear; mittens, balaclava, socks, helmet, boots and suit before having a safety briefing about the snowmobiles. We were taken out along a pre determined path through the forest with a couple of stops to hear more about the northern lights. Roger was so knowledgeable and along with John they looked after all of us brilliantly (sorting out the snowmobile when I managed to get it stuck in deep snow!). You then get the chance to swap drivers (as long as you both have a valid driving licence). After whizzing through the forest you go back to the lodge for a hot drink and a snack before being taken back to your pick up point. Overall this was a superb trip - just wish I’d got the hang of it sooner!!
