What To Expect
We pick you up in Tromsø and take you by minibus on a chase for the magical Northern lights. With the best local knowledge we will find the best area for the lights and good scenery for your pictures. To find a clear sky we will drive where we have to, even to Finland if needed. Our family ran company, Tromsø Friluftsenter, focus on small groups that gives the personal touch. Since 2004 we have given our guests adventures from our hearts. During the evening your guide will show you a movie and tell you information about the Northern lights, both the science and the folklore. We will also help you to adjust your camera settings for pictures of the northern lights, and take pictures of you with the lights for you to take home to show your family and friends. (Available for download in original size from our Flickr account). We may also visit our lavvu (our modern Sami shelter) and sit around the nice warm bonfire.(If we are within reasonable driving distance from our base camp). Occasionally the chance of a clear sky is low, and in that case we will advise you before the excursion starts to get your money refunded instead. We recommend to book more than one day during high season!

Knut made it happen despite all the snow and cloud cover!

5.00We had the most incredible experience with Knut. The weather conditions weren’t looking promising with plenty of cloud cover but Knut was determined to “chase the clear skies” and found us two spots where memories were made! We got much needed hot choc and delicious choc cake at the first spot, where we stayed the longest - Knut pulled out chairs and built a cosy fire for us to toast marshmallows, while we all had our phones/cameras set up on tripods (provided by Knut) grabbing pics as and when she decided to dance. But it was on the way home where he intentionally detoured and stopped off on the side of a road where we saw the most spectacular display of aurora dancing all around and above us. We were with our 9 year old son (who wants to grow up like Knut and chase the clear skies for the aurora) - Knut was so wonderful with him, definitely recommended for families - we befriended another family on the trip too. I am convinced we would not have seen that spectacular show if we weren’t with Northern Norwegian Charm, it was so snowy and impossible to see a few metres in front of us at times but Knut made it happen! Thank you, we are already planning a week long trip next year to do this excursion multiple times.

5.00Bend over backwards on a Cloudy night to get views of the northern lights. We actually drove for 2 hours in sleet and snow to the Finland border. We did get pictures and then the driver hands out hot chocolate or coffee with chocolate cake. Well impressed

5.00Great trip to find the Northen Lights. Family run business who take every step to find the lights on your trip - highly coordinate with other guides. Trina was an excellent guide and driver. We had a really great time and were lucky with a long, spectacular display between the blizzards!

5.00Highly recommend! We were really lucky to have chosen Norwegian Charm for our northern lights excursion out of the many available. We were in the great hands of Knut. Before we started the chase, Knut was very honest with the group and said it would be 50/50 whether we saw the lights due to extremely overcast conditions. As a result of the odds he offered everybody the chance for a refund before we took off which we thought was very fair. Despite the conditions Knut went above and beyond and he managed to find a break in the clouds in the south island for just long enough so we could all see the lights and it was amazing. He was a brilliant host, made everybody feel welcome and was very informative. Would recommend to anyone wanting to see the lights, I think your best chances are with this company.

5.00Trine was an excellent guide — engaging, cheerful and full of knowledge and stories about the local area. She was always more than willing to take professional grade pictures of people under the lights and the family farm is exceptionally beautiful, especially on a night with a full moon. We saw a full display of the aurora and it was jaw dropping — highly recommended. Thank you for a wonderful experience!

5.00Amazing activity with an amazing guide!!!! Trine really lives the experience and we were chasing auroras all night. We made several stops in order to find the maximum number of auroras. Moreover, her explanations were super great and she has a very deep knowledge of the topic. 100% recommendable!!

5.00Trina was the most amazing tour guide ever. The weather wasn’t the best that day, but she was always positive and telling us stories about similar conditions on other days and were able to see the Northern Lights. We went almost to Finland border because that’s where it was supposed to be less cloudy. So we went to 3 different places and there was no luck at all. She said ok well let’s wait and start a fire, after taking everything out of the car, a colleague call her to tell her about a place that had clear skies and she said ok everybody back in the bus we have an opportunity and drove for another 40 minutes. When we arrived she was as excited as we were and that was so nice because you can tell she is passionate about her job. While she is driving, she puts a short movie that explains how the northern lights work and all the Norwegian stories and also she tells you how to set up your camara or even your phone so you can get great pictures. She has plenty tripods as well. And if you are not a good photographer, she is a GREAT ONE, and she is so happy to take as many pictures as you want. And send them to you with high quality to download for free!! Did I mention how good the snacks she has are? Delicious chocolate cake, delicious broth soup, hot chocolate or tea. Thanks Trina for such a wonderful experience!!! If we could, we would go with you every night!!

5.00Don't Get on the bus UNTIL TRINE is your Host i REPEAT Dont get on the bus if She is not there. I have traveled to almost 40 Countries around the world that WOMEN didnt take a break or wasted our time until we saw the best Northern Lights @ 12 40 AM(Trip was stated at 6 PM ), She was Searching for the lights Outside or on an APP to find the perfect i Visited Tromso 18-2-2023. Trina was lovely and looked after us really well, we had professional photographs taken, free tea & coffee and cake and toasted marshmallows. Very informative information given in the car before and after the journey. Highly recommended!

5.00Me & girlfriend Was in Tromso for first time traveling to there. We visited yours yesterday (15. Februar) we got the guide som call Trine. Trine was good people! She translate English to Norwegian because my girlfriend can't so good English. We got the hot chocolate, cake and campfire. We got see the northern lights. That's was beautiful to see first stop. I get out and see up so I se northern lights! Thank you so much so wonderful trip Trine! See you next time!
