Our guide, Max, was very passionate and shared a lot of interesting information about the auroras. Thank you, Max! Unfortunately, during the past couple of days the weather wasn’t in our favor because there were always clouds. We spent quite a lot of time traveling to one specific location, and when we arrived it was still quite cloudy. After that we traveled back, and we were only able to see a faint aurora for about 10 minutes because the peak had already passed. Nevertheless, the sausage and the campfire were very nice and made the experience enjoyable. It’s important to remember that this is a natural phenomenon, so of course it can’t be guaranteed. If the skies are clear, I would definitely recommend this tour. The whole experience with the campfire and everything else makes it special.

This was one of the most amazing trips I have been on in my 62 years. To put that into context, I've been lucky enough to visit every continent (including Antarctica). We hedged our bets and scheduled 3 aurora tours during our 4-night stay in Tromso in hopes that at least one of them would be successful. There was a snow storm the first night. The tour company (not Northern Lights) did the best they could and tried multiple locations. But it was a bust. But then...on the day of our Northern Horizon tour with tour guide Max, Dec. 10, 2025, we were treated to a magnificent show. So much so that when we thought it was over and we were packing up from our cozy fire ring where we had reindeer sausage, Max said "Look! It's even better!" And it just continued to be better and better. Max took so many pictures of all of us on the tour, as well as images of the sky and surrounding area, and a timelapse of the aurora, which are made available to all of us. He's really good at aurora photography. I would highly recommend Northern Horizon. The mini bus was comfortable, they gave us warm suits and boots to use, and provided food, Max gave us a lot of information about the aurora and was incredibly helpful and interesting. Tromso is a wonderful place to see the aurora, but keep in mind, you never know what the conditions will be on the night you want to see them. The Kp index was low during the time we were there, so I almost cancelled...but we were assured that because Tromso sits directly in the aurora oval, there can be stunning displays even at a low Kp level. So, here's wishing you get clear, dark skies!

We went on a Northern Lights Tour with Northern Horizons for my birthday a few weeks ago, and it was a FANTASTIC experience. Our tour guide Max was insanely knowledgeable about the Northern Lights! He shared his knowledge with us on the way out of Tromsø for the evening, which was a highlight of our trip. We stopped quite a few times to see the lights make small appearances before Max decided on the best place for us to set up camp for the night- with Max providing a photo op at each stop. After communicating with other guides, Max decided on a location for us to set up camp. He and Martin (our amazing driver) began working on a fire to cook our dinner for the night- pølse and lompe, cookies, and warm drinks- it was honestly such a great meal. However, every time we began to cook our sausages, Lady Aurora treated us to a show (what a problem to have)! We got incredibly lucky to be treated to such an amazing show where the Northern Lights danced across the entire sky for quite a while. My family and I really enjoyed watching Max run to get the best shot of the aurora as they evolved, and the photos we were sent the next morning were absolutely incredible! Even if we were not as lucky to see such an amazing show, it still would’ve been a great experience. What sets Northern Horizons apart is that they have an amazing team of drivers like Martin who keep us safe on the road while the tour guide is able to focus solely on finding the best location to see the lights. We will definitely be back to take another tour again in the future!

Max was the best tour guide we could have asked for - energetic, knowledgeable, very well prepared and took us into Finland after stopping several times to get us the clearest skies possible for some great aurora photos despite the challenging cloudy conditions! We went with another tour provider the next night but no aurora unfortunately and the tour guide was definitely not in the same league and setup camp an hour outside of Tromso.

Despite the capricious weather, Bert, our guide, and Bart, our driver, managed to introduce us to these fantastic natural phenomena. It was a great success and we recommend their excursion without any hesitation!

Strongly suggest Northern Horizon and would like to thank our guide Max. That guy didn’t base his predictions and route based on just experience in the region but real time data and was forecasting every light appearance 20 even 30 minutes before it occurred which resulted into leading us in a quiet valley where we saw something spectacular. Huge thanks to Max for the professional and wonderful photos that he made of us.

It was incredible! Our guide, Harry, was very knowledgeable about the aurora & knew the best places to take us. We stayed later than most of the groups around us & the aurora really exploded after that. A++ experience.
