Dear travellers to Moldova!
I would like to greet you warmly in my home country and introduce you to our little country. On the map of Eastern Europe, Moldova is still an unexplored country. On our one-day tour, we visit a place that can surprise Moldova – state within Moldova – tiny Transnistria, which is not found on the world map. We show and tell you about people's everyday lives, our culture and values, typical Moldovan delicacies. ES lunch is served at the inn in the Bulgarian village with the locals. On the tour we visit the fortress of Bendery, on the city walk we learn about the historical events that had shaped this region. We look at the Soviet monuments, Lenin and Suvorov monuments, the majestic building and memorial sites.

Bendery Fortress
Our first stop is the abandoned amusement park in Bendery, a place where the children once played. At the moment there are only rusted attractions and an abandoned Ferris wheel. Then we visit the 615-year-old ancient city of Bendery. Here is one of the most important sights - the castle complex from the XVI century, built by Ottomans. 250 years ago, heavy fighting between the Russian and Ottoman Empires took place here. Today Bendery Castle is considered a sprawling monument with incomparable Turkish architecture. We also visit the 19th century Orthodox church. The torture museum is also there; you climb to the highest tower of the fortress. Here at the castle you can also read Münchhausen's fairy tale 'Ride on the Cannonball' and even fly on a cannon! In the XIX century, the Swedish king Charles XII lived for 3 years. What happened to him later - you'll find out when you're there!
The Memorial of Military Glory
Afterwards we take a city walk through Bendery: we visit places that are for locals are holy. These are the memorials that remind us of fallen soldiers. There is an eternal burn here Flame and stands a combat vehicle. There is a bell tower in the center. The names of soldiers who gave their lives are engraved on the walls sacrificed for the fatherland.

Did a one-day Transnistria tour with Diana as my guide and honestly loved it. Such a surreal, fascinating place and way more interesting when you’re with someone who really knows it. Diana was brilliant — super knowledgeable, easy to chat to, and happy to shape the day around what I wanted to see. It never felt rushed or scripted, just a genuinely great way to experience somewhere so unique. Would 100% recommend, especially if you’re curious and like travelling a bit off the beaten track.

A day that will stay with me! Diana was friendly and engaging throughout. It was like driving around with a friend for the day. Making it a unique experience for us as we got to explore the local market and shops to understand daily life for the people in Transnistria. Learning the Soviet history past and present as we visited the main points of interest in this 1970s time capsule. The views from atop Bender fortress in what was a winter tundra on our day trip, were incredible. Diana was so patient and kind with taking photos and our questions despite it being -12c! The real highlight was of course dining on the local cuisine with the family and being made to feel so welcome … and well fed! The homemade wine and cognac definitely helped fight off the freezing weather! Would definitely recommend this trip to others. Was worth every penny.

This tour was truly unique and unforgettable. Tatiana is incredibly knowledgeable, kind, and grounded — she doesn’t just explain history, she lives it and helps you feel it. Her explanations of Transnistria, Bender, and Tiraspol were clear, nuanced, and deeply human. Vasily, our driver, was young, calm, and extremely helpful. Even with language differences, he made the journey smooth, safe, and enjoyable — a great presence throughout the day. One of the most special moments was ending the tour by visiting Tatiana’s family home and meeting her father, who actually lived during the USSR era. Sharing homemade compote with someone who lived that history added a layer you simply can’t get from museums or books. This wasn’t just a tour — it was a rare cultural exchange and a window into a place most people never truly understand or even know about. Highly recommended!
