One Day Tour on Ometepe : Waterfall - Kayaking - Sunset

The experience starts by car for an hour. Then we will hike San Ramon waterfall located on the steep slopes of Ometepe Maderas Volcano, a refreshing swim in the waterfall’s pool is almost obligatory after two hours hike. The adventure continues on Istian River kayaking a marshy terrain on the western side of the isthmus between Maderas and Concepcion to see all kinds of wildlife such as birds, turtles, alligators, butterflies and monkeys. Our happy final ends on watching the sinking sunlight and clouds paint the sky with vibrant hues of pink, orange, and purple from Punta Jesus Maria, Playa Mangos, or Playa El Peru, the best spots to enjoy the beauty of a sunset, the last farewell kiss for the night to close this amazing tour.

What To Expect
Cascada de San Ramon
The San Ramon waterfall is located on the steep slopes of Ometepe Maderas Volcano, a slice of paradise in the thick jungle which its waters tumble down the sheer, mossy cliff face into a small pool where visitors can bath and admire the fall. And, a refreshing swim in the waterfall’s pool is almost obligatory after a moderate hike.
Rio Istian
Spend a nice day kayaking along the coast of Ometepe Island in Lake Nicaragua until you reach the mouth of the Istián River. The river and marshlands run through the center of the isthmus almost cutting the island in two. The Istián River area is a marshy terrain on the western side of the isthmus between Maderas and Concepción. It is only accessible by water and is a perfect place to see all kinds of wildlife as it is a refuge for several species such as birds, turtles, alligators, butterflies and monkeys.

5.00Had a really good time on this private tour. Beautiful waterfall and scenic views while kayaking. We saw so many Caimans! Donald was such a fun and hilarious tour guide. Highly recommend.

5.00What a day! Donald picked me up in the morning and we went straight to the waterfall at San Ramon with the motorcycle. Was a nice hike with some elevation, but very doable and the views are very nice. Donald is a super cool guy and you can ask him or talk about anything with him. He offered to speak Spanish with me when I told him that I’m learning, and I really appreciated that we could practice all day. The kayak tour to Rio Istiam with Enderson was amazing. Saw many different animal species and he really knows the spots to see cayman. We finished by hanging out at Playa Peru and watched the sunset. I would really recommend this tour to anyone interested in nature and who wants to visit some beautiful places on Ometepe with local knowledge. Thanks again Donald and the happy tours team for everything. I’m super satisfied with the experience and can’t wait for the next opportunity to visit Ometepe.

5.00Just one word. WOW. Honestly, if you are looking for any type of tour company in Ometepe I can’t recommend Happy Tours enough. The booking process was super easy via WhatsApp. I booked at 5pm the night before a full day tour the next day and they managed to quickly organise a pick up from my hotel and lunch. I chose the day tour covering the Waterfalls, Ojo de Agua, Kayaking in the river and sunset at Playa Mangos. My incredible guide Donald picked me up on a motorbike and I had the best day. Donald was so knowledgeable and went out of his way to ensure I had an incredible experience. I got to see so many more things I would have on my own and not being confident riding a scooter or quad this was a great alternative. At the end I even received a bespoke edited video of the tour day. Seriously, if I could give these guys 10 stars I would. Well worth the money and wouldn’t hesitate to book. Having done other tours in Ometepe and places in Nicaragua this really does smash the rest out of the park.
